Ribeira Grande

A north-coast São Miguel spot in the Ribeira Grande municipality, known among local riders for bigger waves and a stronger current than the sheltered south-coast beaches, putting it firmly in more-experienced-rider territory. The north shore here is volcanic and ravine-cut, with beaches like Santa Bárbara and Monte Verde already established local surf breaks.
