Saint-Louis is Senegal's most celebrated kite destination, centred on the Langue de Barbarie, a narrow sand spit stretching over 25km that separates the lower Senegal River from the Atlantic Ocean, just south of the historic UNESCO-listed river-island city. The spit gives a rare side-by-side setup: flat, shallow, sheltered river-side water ideal for learning, right next to a powerful ocean-side wave break for more advanced riding - a combination the local guest-house/camp scene (e.g. Zebrabar, on the river south of the city) has built its surf-and-kite season around.
