Galicia's rias do the teaching: Cesantes and Lourido are sheltered SW-thermal bays with shallow, flat water that local schools use for lessons, and Praia da Canteira is Kiteboarding Galicia's year-round school base.
The open Atlantic side is a different sport — Praia da Lanzada, Doniños and San Xurxo are exposed wave beaches, best in autumn and winter synoptic wind, and not for beginners.
