Agios Andreas Kynourias

also known as Mylos Beach, Agios Andreas Arcadia

advanced only

Nearby Astros 6 km · Nea Kios 24 km · straight-line distance

Agios Andreas is a small stone-built village on the Kynouria coast of eastern Arcadia, about 6 km up the coast from Paralio Astros, where the Vrisiatis river meets the sea.
It is not one beach: Mylos is a pebbled shore named for the ruins of an old windmill that still stands in the water, and Cherronissi lies just north of the village. Both hold Blue Flag status.
The defining condition is south-to-southeast wind and the coastline is listed for kitesurfing and windsurfing, but no wind speeds, no calendar of working months and no rider-level rating have been published for it.
A group of Astros residents was reportedly forming a nautical club at the old customs building on the harbor, planning kite, windsurf, rafting and kayak lessons for the whole of Arcadia alongside diving and rowing; whether it is running now is unconfirmed.
Six kilometers south, Kallisto, the main beach at Paralio Astros, is already organized, with kitesurf and windsurf running there alongside jet-ski and beach volleyball, which makes it the better first stop for local knowledge.
Treat Agios Andreas as a river-mouth open-coast launch for a self-sufficient intermediate: the windmill remains sit in the water off Mylos, and swimmers use the beach right through the summer.

The wind

Direction

beachwater
cross-onS-SE
South-southeasterly wind is the defining condition here and is reportedly the direction that works for kite and windsurf. No wind-speed statistics, no best-months breakdown and no thermal-versus-synoptic character have been published for this coastline.

Strength

No knot figure is published for this spot.

Direction to shore

The coast here runs roughly north to south and faces east across the Argolic Gulf, so the south-southeasterly that works arrives along the beach from the right as you look out at the water: side-onshore, not straight in. Derived from the run of the coastline. Nobody has published the angle at the launch itself.

modelled

A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it. Good for comparing places, weaker for one beach.

Modelled from weather reanalysis on a 10–25 km grid (2022-2024), not a ground station: reliable for trade and synoptic winds, understates thermal sea breezes and valley winds. The typical daily max and the direction are columns of the table above, month by month. Highlighted months are the riding season from the spot record.

Tides

Tide is not something you plan around. This is one of the smallest tidal ranges anywhere, and the level on the Argolic Gulf moves with wind and air pressure more than with the moon. No local gauge figure was found for this stretch of coast.

Temperature

25.5°C summer · 16.7°C winter

Open Argolic Gulf coastline at the mouth of the Vrisiatis (Charadros) river. More than one beach sits here: Mylos, a pebbled shore named for the remains of an old windmill standing in the water, and Cherronissi just north of the village, both Blue Flag-certified.
Agios Andreas and Mylos Beach are not synonyms: Mylos is one specific beach inside the wider Agios Andreas coastline.

Rules & access
No kite ordinance specific to North Kynouria or Agios Andreas exists as of 2026. What applies is the national General Port Regulation No. 20 (Government Gazette B' 444 of 26 April 1999, the instrument still in force after later amendments).
Under it: no riding before sunrise or after sunset; stay at least 200 m off the shoreline and 200 m from swimmers, anchored boats, buoys and other obstacles; do not go more than 1 nautical mile out; keep 1 nautical mile clear of port and marina entrances, a distance the local port authority can cut to 500 m; keep a clear 100 m radius when you launch.
Helmet, harness with hook, line-cutting knife, quick-release and a personal flotation device are compulsory, and a wetsuit is compulsory from 15 October to 15 May. Under-16s may not ride; 14- and 15-year-olds may with parental consent, proven swimming ability and supervision.
Riding in more than 6 Beaufort without lifeguard cover, or in onshore wind with no motorised rescue craft nearby, is also out.

Access rules drift faster than anything else we hold — check locally, and propose an edit if this has changed.

Rider tips

  • Locate the old windmill remains off Mylos before you rig; they stand in the water and give the beach its name.
  • Expect south-to-southeast wind, and check the forecast and the beach the same morning: no speeds or working months have been published for this coast.
  • Drive the 6 km south to Kallisto at Paralio Astros for an organized beach and someone who knows the water.
  • Stay off the water before sunrise and after sunset, keep 200 m from swimmers and anchored boats, and carry helmet, harness with hook, line-cutting knife, quick-release leash and flotation: the Greek national rules apply on this coast.
  • Bring a wetsuit if you are riding between 15 October and 15 May; those same rules require one.
