Brouwersdam

Brouwersdam is a 6.5km Delta Works dam in Zeeland separating the brackish Grevelingenmeer lagoon from the North Sea, and is the Netherlands' single most popular kitesurf spot (ranked #1 nationally and #5 worldwide on Windfinder). It offers two very different faces at one location: sheltered flat-to-choppy water on the lagoon side for beginners and freeriders, and open North Sea waves on the seaward side for advanced riders, all set on a huge, uncrowded sandy dam. A kitesurfing tradition here dates back to the windsurf scene of the early 1980s.

tidesThe Grevelingenmeer lagoon side is largely tide-buffered via a sluice; the North Sea side is fully tidal - low tide gives the flattest water for tricks, high tide brings more wave action
currentsStrong tidal currents, especially near the sluices
standing depthYes - shallow, standing-depth water extends a long way on the lagoon side

Monthly wind statistics

Station: Stellendam / Haringvlietsluizen (windfinder.com, ~14 km) — Windfinder's own Brouwersdam and Renesse/Brouwersdam station pages carry no statistics table. Used Stellendam/Haringvlietsluizen, ~14 km away across the Haringvliet estuary mouth (windfinder itself cites this distance for the Brouwersdam page) - not the dam itself, treat as a regional SW-Netherlands coastal proxy only. Annual averages: 12 kn, WSW, gusts 16 kn. Monthly Bft-probability/speed chart is JS-rendered and could not be captured as numbers in this session; temperature block not present in the extracted content either.
