Praia do Matador, also written Praia do Matadouro, is a small rocky wave beach near Ericeira. The sand runs about 200 m with rocks at both ends and along the side, so the launch is tight and unforgiving. It is rated expert-only, and the shape of the bay alone makes that easy to believe.
Wind direction, wind strength and the local wind name are all missing from what we hold; the only seasonal hint is the regional March to September window. Nothing current confirms that anyone still kites here. Go somewhere else unless you already know the place.

modelled

A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it. Good for comparing places, weaker for one beach.

Modelled from weather reanalysis on a 10–25 km grid (2022-2024), not a ground station: reliable for trade and synoptic winds, understates thermal sea breezes and valley winds. The typical daily max and the direction are columns of the table above, month by month. Highlighted months are the riding season from the spot record.

Rules & access
No kite rules are on record for this beach as of 2026.

Access rules drift faster than anything else we hold — check locally, and propose an edit if this has changed.

Rider tips

  • Walk the beach at low water before you rig; the rocks at both ends define the whole launch.
  • Bring a helmet and an impact vest: 200 m of sand between rocks leaves no room for a bad launch.
  • Ask in Ericeira first, because current kite use at this beach is unconfirmed.
  • Go with someone who has ridden it, or take one of the other Ericeira beaches instead.
