Praia Azul is an open west-facing beach on the Torres Vedras coast at Silveira, one of the sandy bays of that stretch, sitting in a dune system. Clean small to medium Atlantic waves, with a big launching and landing area behind them.
The wind that works is the thermal north, the Nortada, and the kite months are May to September; April to October carries the more constant thermals, and June-August the warmer days. This is intermediate and expert water: current is the hazard on the record, and there is no sheltered corner to fall back on.
In 2026 it is a Blue Flag, accessible and supervised bathing beach with lifeguards, first aid, showers, toilets, parking, a restaurant and a bar, so from June to September expect swimmers and a bathing zone to keep clear of.
Nobody has published a wind average for this beach and no kite-specific rule was found, so both stay open on the record.

modelled

A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it. Good for comparing places, weaker for one beach.

Modelled from the operational forecast archive at 1.5–7 km (2023-2024), daylight hours only, not a ground station: it resolves thermal, lake and valley winds far better than coarse reanalysis but still tends to understate a strong local thermal. A windy day has at least three consecutive daylight hours at 12 knots or more. The typical daily max and the direction are columns of the table above, month by month. Highlighted months are the riding season from the spot record.

Rules & access
2026: Praia Azul is a Blue Flag, accessible and supervised bathing beach in season under the Torres Vedras municipality. No 2026 kite-specific municipal rule was found.

Access rules drift faster than anything else we hold — check locally, and propose an edit if this has changed.

Rider tips

  • Check the beach flag and stay clear of the bathing zone during supervised summer hours.
  • Plan for cool Atlantic water even in August: a 2 mm long-sleeve shorty, or 3/2 mm when the wind is up.
  • Treat north as the wind to wait for, and read the forecast before you drive out.
  • Respect the current and the shorebreak; there is no flat-water learner lagoon here.
