Akyarlar, sometimes written Akyarlar - Karadag Beach, is a small bay near Turgutreis on the southern Bodrum peninsula: clear water, a narrow sand strip, restaurants along the shore. It works as a windsurf and family beach first, with the school teaching in the protected shallows on the afternoon Meltemi. For kiting the case is thinner.
NW arrives over the land and comes in gusty, cleaning up only out toward the rocky headland, and the beach is narrow and shared with swimmers. Monthly averages sit at 4-6 kt; the better months are June and July, with October better still, which tells you how few properly powered days there are.
Summer water is 24-26 C and winter 17-18 C, so boardshorts for most of the year and a full suit in the cold months. Some riders here skip Akyarlar in summer and wait for the winter southerlies and the waves that come with them.
Nobody has published a current kite launch zone for the bay, so ask a school on the day before you rig.

The wind

locals call it Meltemi

Direction

Character

thermal

fills in: Mornings are usually calm. The Meltemi fills in for the afternoon, which is when the windsurf lessons run.

Typical strength

4-6 kt in the monthly averages; individual Meltemi days run stronger than that number suggests.

Regular enough for windsurf lessons in the protected water. For kiting it is gusty, because the NW comes in over the land.
The summer afternoon Meltemi is workable for lessons and progression. June and July rate as good and October as great, yet the average wind speed stays low all year. Some local riders avoid Akyarlar in summer and prefer the winter southerlies for waves.

Direction to shore

Variable around the bay; NW can be overland/gusty.

Dominant direction

NW / NNW in regional Meltemi patterns; forecast apps are used locally for day checks

A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it. Good for comparing places, weaker for one beach.

Modelled from weather reanalysis on a 10–25 km grid (2022-2024), not a ground station: reliable for trade and synoptic winds, understates thermal sea breezes and valley winds.
