Rider tips
- Check which authorized kite corridor is actually installed before you rig in summer; not all of the beach is legal for launch and landing.
- Keep clear of the Coghinas mouth at the Valledoria end. The district rules put river mouths off limits.
- Bring 9 and 12 m kites for the summer thermal and rig for open-sea chop and small waves, not flat-water freeride.
- When Maestrale makes Badesi too wavy, drive the 9 km to the shallow San Pietro a Mare lagoon at Valledoria; the schools move there for exactly that reason.
- Outside June-September pack a full suit: the winter sea here averages about 14-15 C.
- Take a car. The backups are strung along the Gulf of Asinara and the north coast and you will not walk between them.
- Save 1530, the Coast Guard number, before you go out; there is no kite rescue boat on call at Li Junchi.
Getting there
Airport
Olbia Costa Smeralda, about 50 km east of Badesi. Alghero is the other practical north-west Sardinia airport, though the transfer time from there is unconfirmed.
Route
A car is the practical way to reach Marina di Badesi and Li Junchi with kite gear, and the only sane way to move between Badesi, Valledoria, Castelsardo and Isola Rossa. Ferries into Porto Torres work for riders bringing their own car, though the routing is unconfirmed.

Is it suitable for beginners?
Yes with instruction: the wide sand area supports learning, but exposed beach chop, waves, bathers and corridor rules mean beginners are best served by a school rather than self-launching in peak season.
Are there rules or restrictions?
A 2025 local ordinance requires kitesurfers to be at least 14 years old, wear an approved flotation aid and helmet, carry a safety release and line-cutter, use authorized launch corridors, and avoid river mouths, ports and the Asinara marine protected area.
What are the main hazards?
River-mouth current near the Coghinas/Valledoria end, exposed Gulf of Asinara chop and waves on stronger days, and gusts over 20 knots are flagged as unfavorable conditions under local rules.
