Porto Pollo

Porto Pollo is northern Sardinia's most famous kite and windsurf destination, a sandy isthmus (Isuledda) in the comune of Palau on the Strait of Bonifacio, between the Liscia river mouth and Isola dei Gabbiani. Two bays split by the peninsula give riders a choice of flatter or choppier water, and the spot hosted IKA Kiteboarding World Championship finals in 2016. It is widely regarded as one of Europe's premier freeride/freestyle wind-sport gymnasiums.

Monthly wind statistics

Station: Palau (weatherspark modelled climatology) (Weatherspark (NASA/NOAA MERRA-2 reanalysis-based model climatology, not a physical anemometer), ~5 km) — Windfinder's Porto Pollo page has a weather station that is 'not available anymore or currently not reporting' — only a coarse annual figure is given (avg 9 kt from WNW, May 2004-Jul 2021 sample). Windfinder itself notes Palau is only ~5 km away as the nearest alternative, but its own statistics page for Palau was unreachable this session (persistent HTTP 429 from windfinder.com). Used Weatherspark's Palau-specific modelled climatology instead. IMPORTANT: this reanalysis-based 24h/365-day average peaks in winter, the OPPOSITE of the batch's known_best_months (May-Sep); the summer Maestrale that makes the Strait of Bonifacio famously windy is a strong, persistent afternoon phenomenon this whole-day average substantially understates. Windfinder's own annual figure (WNW, 9 kt) is arguably closer to ground truth for the direction than Weatherspark's coarse 'W' bucket. No Beaufort-probability or water-temperature data published; left null rather than invented.
