On the clock

10:00 · 17:30

Daytime; courses run 10:00-17:30 when it blows. No local onset hour confirmed.

The marks are the clock times the record names, laid on a 24-hour day. The bar between the first and the last covers those hours; it is not a promise of wind.

Camocim is a name that covers four different bits of water: the Rio Coreau delta and Ilha do Amor across from town, the ocean-facing peninsula running toward Maceio, Praia do Maceio itself, and Lagoa das Cangalhas in the dunes.
Which one you ride depends on the tide, the wind angle and whether you want flat water or waves, and the first session is easier with a local school pointing at the right sandbank.
Season is July to January or February; August through January is the reliable stretch, NE trade around 20-30 kt at Maceio and lighter than the western Ceara spots, so pack a 12 m.
Flat water lives in the estuary and the tidal lagoons, Maceio and Cangalhas do freeride and freestyle, and the downwind logistics run from Jericoacoara through Tatajuba and Camocim toward Parnaiba. It is not a simple beginner beach.
The tide range runs to roughly 0.2-3.1 m, rocks show at low water from Ilha do Amor toward Maceio, fishing boats work the estuary, and Maceio wind is reported both as clean side-shore and as gusty side-off/offshore, a contradiction nobody has settled. Water is warm year-round and the dry-season sun is brutal.
Camocim town is the service hub between Jeri and Barra Grande, with banks and a hospital; Praia do Maceio has the beach pousadas and the school.

Typical strength

20-30 kt in the core season at Maceio; gusty summer peaks up to 40 kt and January peaks of 30-35 kt are reported. No monthly average table exists for the delta launch itself.

Reliable in season, July-February. Maceio is the question mark: side-shore on the beach in front of the school, but gusty side-off/offshore is also reported.
The useful season runs from July to January or February, with August-January the peak and March-June rainier and lighter. January-June is the rainy season and August-December is the dry season.

Thermal or synoptic

synoptic trade wind, lighter than the western Ceará spots; a bigger kite, ~12m, is the usual advice

The quiver, in words

For 75-85 kg: 8-10 m through the strong stretch from September to December, when the trade regularly sits above 25 kt, and 11-12 m in June-August and in January, months that rate around force 4 on the Maceio beach.Indicative, not measured: the sizes come from a month-by-month Beaufort scale for Maceio and from the 7-9 m high-season quiver used by 80 kg riders at the neighbouring Jericoacoara and Prea beaches. Nobody publishes a quiver for the Rio Coreau launch itself.

modelled

A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it. Good for comparing places, weaker for one beach.

Modelled from weather reanalysis on a 10–25 km grid (2022-2024), not a ground station: reliable for trade and synoptic winds, understates thermal sea breezes and valley winds. The typical daily max and the direction are columns of the table above, month by month. Highlighted months are the riding season from the spot record.

The water

Type

mixed

Standing depth

Confirmed only for some of the tidal flats: you can stand at low tide around the Pedra Baleia rocks; Lagoa das Cangalhas has ultra-shallow sections at low tide and stays navigable in the middle.

Tides

Strongly tide-dependent. Camocim tide tables for August 2026 show a semi-diurnal range of roughly 0.2-3.1 m; Lagoa das Cangalhas and Maceio conditions change with the tide.

Temperature

28°C summer · 27.3°C winter

Wetsuit

No wetsuit normally needed; water-temperature sources show warm water year-round and shorts are reported as enough.

Currents

Watch the Rio Coreau estuary and the boat channels; the Ilha Grande channel in the delta next door runs a fierce tidal current, and Camocim is a working fishing port.

28–30°C water
Camocim is a riding zone, not one beach. The Rio Coreau/Ilha do Amor side is flat or protected; Maceio and the ocean-facing peninsula are chop and small to medium waves with occasional flat lagoon and bay sections. Lagoa das Cangalhas is a freshwater lagoon in the dunes, separate from the tidal Rio Coreau system it sometimes gets lumped with.
Praia do Maceio is calm, warm water with kite and windsurf structure on the beach.

Your level

beginnerintermediateadvanced
Any level can ride Praia do Maceio and the Camocim flats, but beginners should go with a school or boat support: rocks, tide windows, gusty offshore wind at Maceio and estuary traffic are all in play.

Launch

Launch depends on tide and on what you want: across the Rio Coreau near Ilha do Amor and Pedra Baleia for delta flat water, Praia do Maceio for beach access, schools and rooms, or the lagoon and bay sections near Lagoa das Cangalhas for flat water.Get a local to point you the first time; even the names of the spots are argued over.

  • Tide-dependent depth and lagoon access

  • High heat and strong sun
Rules & access
2026: no municipal or beach-community kite rules, zones or permits found for Camocim, Praia do Maceio or Lagoa das Cangalhas. That does not mean there are none; ask locally.

Access rules drift faster than anything else we hold — check locally, and propose an edit if this has changed.

Rider tips

  • Check the Camocim tide table before you pick between Ilha do Amor/Rio Coreau, Maceio and Lagoa das Cangalhas; the range runs to roughly 0.2-3.1 m and everything changes with it.
  • Ask at the school where the rocks sit before you ride low tide from Ilha do Amor toward Maceio.
  • For a downwinder, book the buggy or 4x4 and confirm the beach-track tide window the day before.
  • Sun cream, hat, water; the sun here is the hazard people underestimate.
  • At Maceio do not trust the wind angle on paper: it is called side-shore by some and gusty side-off/offshore by others. Look at it before you launch.
