The spot

Campione del Garda sits under the Tremosine cliffs on the western shore of Lake Garda, and the point of it is that you can ride both of the lake's thermals in one day: Peler out of the north in the morning, Ora out of the south in the afternoon.

Not a casual beach

This is not a casual beach. KiteCampione runs the kite area under a concession, with membership, a licence, a medical certificate, assisted launch, one kite up at a time and marked launch and return corridors. Schools and lift boats make it workable for lessons and for progression, while an independent rider has to be comfortable with paperwork, a regulated corridor and deep water straight off a stony beach.

Water and season

The water is fresh and mostly flat to choppy, with more texture in a strong northerly. April to October is the practical season, warmest and busiest June to August.

Kite range

Bring a real spread of kite sizes, because the morning Peler and the afternoon Ora can want completely different ones on the same day.

Summer has the warmest water and the busiest beaches; spring and autumn can be very good and cold. Rescue

2026: two club boats cover rescue and assistance from the kite area, charged per pick-up: EUR 8 (2026) for members in Ora, EUR 16 (2026) for members in Peler, EUR 50 (2026) for non-members. The service is explicitly not guaranteed.

Staff are on hand for land and water assistance every day including holidays, 08:00-18:00, from 1 April to 30 October. Outside those hours and dates there is no cover at all.

Launch

Managed KiteCampione kite area on the Campione lakefront, with marked launch and return corridors, one kite taking off at a time, assisted launch required, and boat and lift options used by the schools and by riders. The beach is pebble and gravel under steep cliffs, with bars, restaurants and a small market a short walk away.

2026: the KiteCampione kite area runs under a lakeshore concession and you cannot launch independently without joining. Membership prices were published for the 2025 season and were still on the page in 2026: EUR 170 (2025) for the year, EUR 80 (2025) for a week and EUR 15 (2025) for under-18s, with no daily or monthly option; the fee covers the compulsory insurance and the club identification lycra.

Licencing and insurance

A valid FIV, IKO or VDWS kitesurfing licence is required and the school can issue one if you do not hold it; the same requirement is phrased elsewhere as a level III proficiency and safety certificate. Third-party liability insurance specific to kiteboarding with at least EUR 500,000 (2026) of cover is required, and the only accepted alternative is a valid FIV card.

Medical fitness

A medical certificate of fitness for non-competitive sport including an ECG is mandatory and must be issued by an Italian doctor in Italy, so sort it before you travel. Minimum age 12.

On the water

On the water: approved life jacket, line cutter, working quick-release, one inflated kite at a time in the kite zone, the launch corridor kept clear, assisted launch only, and launch and return through the assigned corridors.

Prohibited activities

Riding within 150 m of shore, entering swimming areas, flying kites outside the kite area, prolonged kite flying on land, unauthorised teaching or commercial activity, smoking near sails, and jumps or direction changes in the buoyed exit corridor are all prohibited.

Operational hours

Staff assistance on land and water runs daily including holidays 08:00-18:00 from 1 April to 30 October, and the secretariat is open from 1 April to 31 October.

Rider tips

Get the medical certificate before you travel: it needs an ECG and must be issued by an Italian doctor in Italy, and it is the requirement most visitors trip over.
A week of membership costs EUR 80 (2025 price, still the published one in 2026) and a year EUR 170 (2025 price); there is no day ticket, and an FIV, IKO or VDWS card is accepted.
Check the KiteCampione webcam and anemometer and the local pressure charts rather than a generic forecast app.
Arrive early for Peler, expect a flat gap through the middle of the day, and be rigged again for the Ora.
Carry small kites for the morning north wind and big ones for the afternoon Ora, and do not jump or change direction in the buoyed exit corridor.
Bring water shoes. The beach is stones and the lake bed is boulders.
Take a school or the lift service for your first session here if you have never used the launch corridor.

Verona Villafranca (103 km) and Bergamo Orio al Serio (125 km) are the nearest airports listed by Tremosine tourism; Milan Linate (154 km) and Milan Malpensa (210 km) are farther options

Route

By car, approach Tremosine via the A22 at Rovereto Sud/Lago di Garda Nord from the north or the A4 at Brescia Est/Desenzano from the south, then follow the Gardesana Occidentale SS45bis along the western shore; Campione sits on the lake below Tremosine and is reached from the lake road and tunnel system. From Verona Villafranca it is about 106 km and roughly 1 hour 40 minutes, so allow closer to two hours on a summer weekend. Bergamo Orio al Serio is a longer run on the same side of the lake.Getting down and aroundIf you are staying up in Tremosine rather than on the water, the descent to Campione is about 5 km of hairpins, 10-15 minutes. By train and bus, the nearest stations are Rovereto and Desenzano, with onward buses via Limone, Gargnano and Tremosine.
