Spiaggia Brema is a broad grassy public beach on the west side of the Sirmione peninsula, at Via B. Buozzi, with free access, a bar, pedalos, beach volleyball and windsurf and kitesurf gear on site.
The bottom stays shallow for about 200 m out, which makes this the only standing-depth area on Lake Garda and the reason beginners end up here. Flat surroundings and no venturi effect mean the wind is less reliable than at the venturi spots farther north.
It works on a strong northerly Peler, on storm Tramontana or Bali, and on W/SW Ander, the best lower-lake direction and also the least frequent: Ander is often too light to plane, and now and then far too much.
April to October is the working window, with stronger northerly sessions in autumn mornings and late summer evenings when storms sit over the upper lake. The usual launch is the small beach to the right of the pontoon, and the pontoon plus the shallow bar beside it are what you keep away from.
Summer can be ridden in swimwear; in winter, with the water averaging 6.7 C, at least a semi-dry is mandatory.

fills in: Ander blows during the day; stronger northerly sessions are reported in autumn mornings and late summer evenings during upper-lake storms.

Typical strength

It starts working around 5-10 knots and most sessions sit in the 10-20 knot band. Winter northerlies arrive colder and stronger; summer wind is medium-strong and less consistent.

Less reliable than the northern Garda venturi spots, with flat surroundings and negligible venturi effect.
Works on a strong northerly Peler, on storm Tramontana or Bali, and on W/SW Ander. Ander is not frequent and is often too light to plane, though it can also come in very strong.

The quiver, in words

No local quiver figures have been published. Indicative for a 75-85 kg rider across the usual 10-20 knot band: 12 m as the everyday kite, 14 m to make 10-12 knots rideable, 9 m when a strong Peler or a storm Ander overshoots. Derived from the local wind range, not measured on the beach.

Direction to shore

Side-shore on the usual days. On the west flank of the Sirmione peninsula the northerly Peler runs side-shore to side-off, while W/SW Ander comes in onshore to side-onshore.

modelled

A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it. Good for comparing places, weaker for one beach.

Modelled from the operational forecast archive at 1.5–7 km (2023-2024), daylight hours only, not a ground station: it resolves thermal, lake and valley winds far better than coarse reanalysis but still tends to understate a strong local thermal. A windy day has at least three consecutive daylight hours at 12 knots or more. The typical daily max and the direction are columns of the table above, month by month. Highlighted months are the riding season from the spot record.

The water

Type

lake

Standing depth

The bottom stays shallow for about 200 m from shore, and this is the only standing-depth area on Lake Garda.

Tides

No tide; it is a freshwater lake. Lake level still matters: low water means a long walk out and exposes an extra shallow bar near the pontoon.

Temperature

23.6°C summer · 6.7°C winter

Wetsuit

Swimwear works in summer; in winter at least a semi-dry suit is mandatory.

Freshwater lower Lake Garda beach on the west side of the Sirmione peninsula. A grassy, broad beach with plenty of water space, and shallow water extending about 200 m from shore.

Your level

Easy access and broad shallow water make it a beginner beach for windsurf and kitesurf. Stronger Peler, Bali or storm Ander push it into intermediate and advanced territory.

Rescue

No lifeguard post, patrol or rescue boat is documented for Brema. The beach bar is the only staffed presence on the sand (030 9905107, 347 9247930) and anything serious goes through 112. The 200 m shallow shelf works in your favour: over most of the riding area you can stand and walk gear in rather than swim it.

Launch

Large grassy public beach at Via B. Buozzi with parking behind it and immediate access to the water. The usual launch is the small beach to the right of the wooden pontile. Bar, toilets and showers on site; there is also an inner harbour beside the beach.

Rules & access
2026: free public access, no fee and no permit. Posted beach rules are dogs allowed, no camping, no fires, sunbeds and umbrellas by reservation. No kite-specific municipal ordinance, launch corridor, hour window or seasonal ban has been found for Brema, so in practice the constraints are swimmers, pedalos and the pontile rather than paper.

Access rules drift faster than anything else we hold — check locally, and propose an edit if this has changed.

Rider tips

  • Check the lake level before you drive: low water means a long walk out and an extra shallow bar near the pontoon.
  • Launch from the small beach to the right of the pontoon, and stay downwind of nothing you cannot clear.
  • Wear something on your feet; the bottom is stony.
  • Treat a thunderstorm Bali or a strong Ander as advanced conditions, not a first-week session.
  • Below about 10 knots there is nothing here for a kite; the spot only starts to work from 5-10 knots on a big sail and needs the 10-20 knot band to be worth rigging.
  • Do not leave anything in the car. Break-ins on windy days are a known problem at this beach.

FAQ

Is Spiaggia Brema suitable for beginners?

Yes, easy beach access and roughly 200 m of shallow water make it particularly suitable for windsurf and kitesurf beginners, though stronger Peler, Bali or Ander sessions suit more experienced riders.

What is the wind like?

The spot works mainly with northerly Peler or storm Tramontana/Bali winds and with W/SW Ander, though it is less wind-reliable than Lake Garda's northern venturi spots.

What hazards should riders know about?

Hazards include a stony or shallow bottom, a shallow bar near the pontoon, low-water walkouts, and choppy conditions when Ander blows strongly.
