The spot

Paramali and Avdimou are two beaches a few kilometres apart on the west side of Limassol, in or beside the British Sovereign Base Area, and they get lumped together because the same Limassol schools work both.

Paramali beach

Paramali is the wild one: a long sand-and-pebble turtle beach below Paramali village, reached by dirt track off the motorway exit, no lifeguards, few swimmers, Mediterranean chop with no real waves, and the beginners' pick because there is so much open beach to launch from.

Avdimou Bay is the serviced one, with a tavern, schools running lessons and rentals, and open-sea water with small waves or chop.

Wind and seasons

The wind is the afternoon SW to W thermal, 14-25 kt in summer; the season runs April to November, June to September are the months everyone agrees on, and morning wind is not something to plan around. Published wind ranges for Avdimou disagree wildly, so read the live forecast, not the averages.

Turtles set the rules: no driving on the sand, no night use, no riding through the marked nests or dunes, and winter southerlies can throw up surf that makes it an advanced-only day.

Paphos Airport is the close one, but Limassol has the food, the repair shops and the alternate beaches, so most people base there.

No public lifeguard at Paramali, and nothing confirmed at Avdimou either beyond a school safety boat run for its own students. Cover for an independent rider is something to arrange before you rig, not something waiting on the beach.

Launch

Paramali: a long, mostly undeveloped sand and pebble beach with a medium-size launch, parking on the roadside or along the dirt track. Avdimou: a broader sandy bay with a tavern and bar close by. At both, watch for stones, other beach users and marked turtle nests or riding-zone signs.

2026: Paramali is a turtle-nesting beach in or beside the British Sovereign Base Areas. Do not disturb turtles, their nests or the protected beach habitat. Driving on the beach and nighttime use are illegal. Ride inside the local riding zones, and check current kite access, school rescue cover and any SBA or municipal restriction before rigging.

Ask a Limassol school where the riding zone is before you rig at Paramali; the turtle-nesting boundaries are not published.
Park on the roadside or the dirt track and carry down. Do not drive onto the sand, tracks or no tracks: it is illegal here.
Come for the afternoon thermal; morning wind is not something to plan on.
Bring water, some shade and shoes for the stones at Paramali; there is nothing there. Avdimou has the tavern.
Fly into Paphos for the 25-40 minute transfer, but base in Limassol if you want repair shops and other beaches.
Treat winter southerlies and end-of-day gusts as advanced conditions, not learning days.

Getting there

Airport

Paphos International Airport (PFO) is the closest major airport for Paramali/Avdimou; Larnaca International Airport (LCA) is a workable alternative with more flight choice.

Route

A car is strongly recommended. Paramali access is via the Paramali motorway exit and local/dirt roads toward the beach; it is not served comfortably by public transport. Avdimou Bay is reached by road south of Avdimou village.

Transfer

About 25-40 minutes by car from Paphos Airport to Paramali/Avdimou depending on exact launch; about 25-35 minutes from Limassol; Larnaca Airport is typically much farther, roughly around 75-90 minutes by highway depending on traffic and exact destination.
