Scoglitti is the best-documented kite spot on this piece of the Ragusa coast. Sand, flat water, chop, small waves, a medium launch area, no tide to work around. Two winds do the work: Maestrale comes onshore and builds the waves, which is expert territory, and Scirocco comes in side-shore over flatter water for freestyle and freeride.
Behind the pier the water goes very flat in southerly wind. Winter northerlies and northwesterlies put proper shape into the waves; summer Scirocco blows warm and side-on. The pier and the harbour are the obvious hazards, and other beach users are the other one in June, July, August.
Official 2026 regional bathing-season files list monitored bathing beaches around Scoglitti and mark Porto di Scoglitti as a 650 m non-bathing harbour stretch, so launching anywhere near the port needs local care.

Light to moderate as a rule, around 10-15 knots, so bring big gear. Maestrale is the wave wind and Scirocco the flatter one.
Maestrale works all year and Scirocco from March to November, with March through November the best window overall. Winter brings Tramontana, Grecale, Maestrale, all with formed waves; summer adds the warm, constant side-on Scirocco.

No local report of sizes. Worked back from the usual 10-15 kt, a 75-85 kg rider is on 12 m and up, a light-wind board or a foil; indicative, not measured here.

Direction to shore

Maestrale (NW) arrives onshore and is the wave wind, ridden starboard tack. Scirocco (SE) comes in side-shore over flatter water, port tack. In a southerly the water behind the pier flattens off.

A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it. Good for comparing places, weaker for one beach.

Modelled from weather reanalysis on a 10–25 km grid (2022-2024), not a ground station: reliable for trade and synoptic winds, understates thermal sea breezes and valley winds. The typical daily max and the direction are columns of the table above, month by month. Highlighted months are the riding season from the spot record.

Standing depth

The seabed along this stretch of the south Sicilian coast is very shallow, fine sand packed hard, so you wade out a long way before losing your feet. That is a description of the coast rather than a measurement at Scoglitti, and no depth figure for the beach itself was found.

Tides

Kitesurfing conditions at Scoglitti do not depend on tide.

Sandy beach with flat water, chop, small waves. Behind the pier it goes very flat in southerly wind, and stronger onshore wind brings waves.

Rescue

No kite-specific rescue. Lifeguard cover follows the Sicilian bathing season: between the third Saturday of May and the third Sunday of September, coast designated for bathing must be guarded from 09:00 to 19:00 without a break, and a beach concession posts one qualified lifeguard per 80 m of its sea frontage.
On free beaches the comune either runs the service or has to sign that it does not, so read the boards before you rig. Sea emergency 1530; Capitaneria di Porto Pozzallo 0932 953327.

Launch

Sandy beach with a medium-sized launch and landing area. Scoglitti has large beaches on both sides of town, and the right-hand, downwind one by the harbour is where the tourists and the beach bars are.

Hazards riders report 9

  • waves with stronger onshore wind
  • pier and harbour area
  • beach users
  • mole/pier or harbour structures
  • other beach users, especially June to August
  • waves with stronger onshore winds
  • Expert-only wave conditions in Maestrale.
  • The first 300 m off the beach is closed to kites in the bathing season unless a marked corridor is up, and none is known here
  • No lifeguard outside the season or outside 09:00-19:00, and free beaches may have none at all
Rules & access
  • 2026: Regione Siciliana bathing-season files list Baia Dorica and the neighbouring Vittoria beaches as monitored bathing-water stretches, and Porto di Scoglitti as a 650 m non-bathing harbour area.
  • 2025: the Pozzallo Coast Guard bathing-safety ordinance (n. 38 of 17 May 2025) covers the whole Vittoria and Acate coast. It names kite-surf among the craft barred from transiting, stopping, mooring or anchoring within 300 m of the shore, the one exception being a properly signposted launch corridor. The 200 m band off the beach is reserved for swimmers during bathing hours, 09:00 to 19:00 at the time of the ordinance. A corridor used by kites has to be at least 40 m wide at the sand and at least 100 m wide 100 m out, and the rule is to body-drag in and out to that 100 m mark. Bathing is banned all year inside Porto di Scoglitti and within 100 m of the moles and other harbour structures. Comuni may install corridors on free beaches; no corridor was found posted at Scoglitti, and the 2026 edition of the Pozzallo ordinance was not located.

Access rules drift faster than anything else we hold — check locally, and propose an edit if this has changed.

Rider tips

  • Pick the Scirocco days for flat freestyle and freeride water, and stay off the pier and harbour zone.
  • Treat Maestrale wave days as advanced or expert conditions.
  • Pack the big kite or a light-wind board: 10-15 knots is the normal range.
  • Ride conservatively in June, July, August, when the beach is full.
  • In season the swimmer band runs to 200 m and kites are meant to stay outside 300 m unless a marked corridor is up, so launch well away from the guarded stretches.
