When it fills in
Synoptic, so there is no daily switch-on: while a front sits over the island it blows through the day and the night, and on a slack gradient no hour will rescue the session. The one exception is a summer easterly, which picks up about one Beaufort of thermal reinforcement once the land heats up, and stays offshore while it does.

Typical strength
Nothing measures Strukkamp. The nearest island station with a record, at Wulfen about 5 km away, averages 13 knots with 18-knot gusts across observations from June 2012 to July 2026, dominant southwest. Take that as the indicative level here, and expect the strong days to arrive with a front rather than on a daily rhythm.

The quiver, in words
Indicative, converted from the wind record rather than a published local table. At 75-85 kg a 12 m covers the 14-17 knot days that make up much of the year, 9-10 m the 18-22 band, and 7-8 m once a front pushes past 25. Summer often means the 12 m or a foil. Autumn and winter fronts are when the small kites come out.
Direction to shore
west-sector winds are usable/onshore to side-on depending on exact line; east wind is offshore at Strukkamp.
Dominant direction
All west-sector winds work; southwest is specifically noted for Gold 2/Strukkamp.

modelled
A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it. Good for comparing places, weaker for one beach.
Modelled from the operational forecast archive at 1.5–7 km (2023-2024), daylight hours only, not a ground station: it resolves thermal, lake and valley winds far better than coarse reanalysis but still tends to understate a strong local thermal. A windy day has at least three consecutive daylight hours at 12 knots or more. The typical daily max and the direction are columns of the table above, month by month. Highlighted months are the riding season from the spot record.

The water
Type
Baltic Sea sound / shallow-water shore
Standing depth
About 100 m to 150 m of standing-depth water, knee to hip deep; reports differ on the exact distance.
Tides
No astronomical tide dependence is on record for Strukkamp; Fehmarn is a Baltic spot where water level can still be affected by wind and pressure.
Temperature
17°C summer · 4°C winter
Wetsuit
A wetsuit is normal outside high summer. Fehmarn water averages about 17 C in summer and 4 C in winter, so use a full suit for spring/autumn and cold-water neoprene with boots/gloves/hood in winter.
Currents
Strong current is specifically warned near the Fehmarnsund; riders are told not to stray too close to the sound around the left-hand corner.

Launch
Access is through Camping Strukkamphuk and the campsite is the only way in: day visitors register at reception before entering, then unload. The site marks three areas on the water, a kite zone, a surf zone and a bathing zone. The summer surf area is about 200 m to the right of the bathing zone, and rigging for Gold 2/Strukkamp is beside the Strukkampbar. Both an on-site sailing and windsurf school and an on-site kitesurf school operate here, each with SUP hire and now wing. There is a surfers' shower with a rinse tank for wetsuits.

Rules & access
- 2026: the campsite marks three areas on the water, a Kitezone, a Surfzone and a Badezone, and kiting and windsurfing are absolutely forbidden inside the Badezone.
- 2026: the buoyed summer bathing zone must not be ridden through, and kiters are asked to go farther behind the surf-school area, toward Gold 2/Huenengrab, to avoid conflict.
- 2026: access is through Camping Strukkamphuk only and day visitors must be registered at reception before entering the site.
- 2026: Stadt Fehmarn asks watersport users to keep to permitted kite and surf areas and to stay out of breeding and ecologically sensitive areas.
Access rules drift faster than anything else we hold — check locally, and propose an edit if this has changed.
Rider tips
- Register at the campsite barrier before you unload; the campsite is the only access.
- Keep out of the summer bathing buoys and ride about 200 m to the right of the bathing zone, farther along if the school area is busy.
- Do not drift left toward the Fehmarnsund. The current is strong there and the stones and boat area sit on that side.
- If the launch feels tight, go north to Gold or Huenengrab/Gold 2, where kiters have more space.
- Expect sea grass in the shallows from autumn; windsurfers bring a weed fin.

FAQ
Is it suitable for beginners?
Not straightforwardly. One guide recommends the spot mainly for windsurfing and directs kiters north toward Hünengrab for more space, favoring intermediate and advanced riders.
What is the wind like?
West-sector winds are the main usable direction; easterly wind is offshore, though it can be strengthened by a summer thermal effect.
Are there rules or restricted zones?
Summer bathing zones are buoy-marked and must not be ridden through; riders are advised to move farther from the surf-school area to avoid conflict.
What hazards should I know about?
Strong current in the Fehmarnsund, large submerged boulders, and stones near the shore by the boat area.
How do I get there?
Access is only through Camping Strukkamphuk, reached via the B207/E47 over the Fehmarnsund Bridge, then toward Albertsdorf/Strukkamp.
