Kitesurfing in Schleswig-Holstein

23 spots · 4 destinations · 38 schools

Twenty-three spots split cleanly between two coasts: North Sea tidal flats at St.

Peter-Ording, Büsum and Amrum where the sandbanks and standing water shift with the tide, and Baltic bays around Kiel Fjord and Fehmarn where synoptic wind rules. Fehmarn alone runs from beginner flatwater at Gollendorf and Gold auf Fehmarn to open groyne waves at Heidkate, and Sylt does the same split between the sheltered Ellenbogen lagoon and the wave break at K4.

Schleswig-Holstein holds 23 kitesurf spots in our atlas, grouped into 4 destinations. Riding here is mostly flat water, waves, lagoons and chop. Something is rideable here in every month of the year.

15 of them suits beginners. 38 schools operate in the region. The busiest areas are Fehmarn, Ostsee — Falckensteiner Strand to Surendorf and St. Peter-Ording.
