St. Peter-Ording (Hauptstrand)

St. Peter-Ording is Germany's kite capital: the biggest beach in the country, roughly 12 km long and up to 1 km wide, on the North Sea coast of Schleswig-Holstein. Four distinct beach zones (Hauptstrand, Südstrand, FKK-Strand, Böhl) span flat-water lagoons, shallow beginner sandbanks and reef breaks producing waves up to 4m in strong wind, and the spot has long hosted international Kitesurf World Cup events.

Monthly wind statistics

Station: Husum, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany (WeatherSpark (MERRA-2 reanalysis climate normals), ~20 km) — No St. Peter-Ording-specific WeatherSpark page exists; Husum (~20 km inland/south along the same North Sea coast) is used as the nearest match. The site's own known_best_months (Mar/Apr/May/Sep/Oct/Nov) are retained as best_months_by_data since they reflect established local kite knowledge (thermal + frontal wind season) better than this coarse reanalysis average, which shows fairly flat wind speeds year-round with a winter peak. Source is WeatherSpark (NASA/MERRA-2 reanalysis-derived climate normals), used as fallback because Windfinder.com returned HTTP 429 (rate-limited) for every station tried in this session, and meteoblue was blocked by a Cloudflare challenge. WeatherSpark does not publish probability of wind >=4 Bft, so prob_ge_4bft_pct is null for all months; avg_knots is converted from its mph averages (all-hours annual-cycle average, not limited to daylight/session hours). Dominant direction is coarse: WeatherSpark reports only 1-2 seasonal wind-direction buckets per year (not a true monthly breakdown), so the per-month value here is an approximation mapped from those date-range buckets, not a distinct monthly statistic.
