A soundside beginner spot near Hatteras Village, named for a hurricane-cut breach in the island ("the Washout") close to the area still known as Isabel's Inlet after the 2003 storm. Local kite schools list it among the top beginner launch zones on Hatteras Island for its shallow, easy self-rescue water.
