Kitesurfing in Dodecanese
15 spots · 4 destinations · 20 schools
Karpathos supplies the region's power: the three Kipi Afiartis bays run from the entry-level Luv Spot through Gun Bay to Vatha, nicknamed Devil's Bay, where the all-day Etesian is strong enough to have hosted a speed windsurfing world championship.
Kos is gentler and more schooled, with Kohilari and Mastichari built around teaching in thermal Meltemi. Rhodes closes the set at Prasonisi, the cape where flat offshore water and onshore waves sit a short walk apart.
Dodecanese holds 15 kitesurf spots in our atlas, grouped into 4 destinations. Riding here is mostly chop and flat water. The season runs May to October.
13 of them suits beginners. 20 schools operate in the region. The busiest areas are Kos - Mastichari/Marmari, Rhodes - Theologos coast and Karpathos - Afiartis.
When you may ride
the rules these spots carry, with the year on each
PrasonisiPrasonisi (Rhodes)20262026: kitesurfing is forbidden on the flat-water side and permitted on the wave side, where the kite centre itself sits; port police patrol the flat side by boat and issue tickets to kitesurfers found riding there, with no published exception for school lessons.
AgrilaopotamosKarpathos - Afiartis20262026: kitesurfing is not allowed on the leeward Afiartis bays, so Devil's Bay, Gun Bay and Chicken Bay are windsurf water and the whole kite scene sits at the Luv Spot.
MastichariKos - Mastichari/Marmari20262026: no Mastichari-specific municipal ordinance or marked kite corridor has been found.
TheologosRhodes - Theologos coast20262026: the published rules for Theologos are station rules, not a municipal ordinance, and no municipal or Port Police text specific to this beach has been found.
Vatha Beach (Devil's Bay)Karpathos - Afiartis2026has a date window2026: kitesurfing is not allowed in any of the three Afiartis bays, Vatha included, during the windsurf centres' opening hours of 09:30 to 18:00, on safety grounds; kiting is tolerated on the other side of the island, about half an hour's drive away.
Fanes BeachRhodes - Theologos coast2026Locally the beach is split by buoys into a swimmers' zone and a water-sports zone, and kites belong on the water-sports side. No Fanes-specific 2026 municipal ordinance was found.
IalysosRhodes - Ialysos2026No Ialysos-specific 2026 municipal ordinance was found, and the commercial centers set their own access, storage and rescue rules.
KalavardaRhodes - Theologos coast2026has a date windowGreek national kitesurf rules apply island-wide on Rhodes, prohibiting kitesurfing before sunrise/after sunset, on crowded beaches, inside ports/marinas/fishing shelters, and within 200 m of swimmers, the shoreline outside marked bathing buoys, boats or obstacles, and requiring a helmet, quick-release harness, hook knife, life jacket and an isothermal wetsuit from 15 October to 15 May.
KefalosKos - Kefalos2026No Kefalos or Kohilari municipal or port-authority kitesurf ordinance was found for 2026. The general Greek national kitesurf regulations apply: no kiting before sunrise or after sunset, minimum 200 m from swimmers and obstacles, minimum 200 m from shore except beyond marked swimmer buoys, a clear 100 m launch radius, and licensed lifeguard and powerboat assistance once the wind exceeds Beaufort 6. Beach zoning changes, so check locally.
KohilariKos - Kefalos2025has a date window2025-2026: no beach-specific rules are posted for Kohilari and no municipal or coastguard kitesurf ordinance for it has been found.
Kremasti BeachRhodes2025As of 2025 Kremasti has kite zones and the water entry is limited by buoys separating the kite and swimming areas.
Makris Gialos (Gun Bay)Karpathos - Afiartis2026No Karpathos municipal or port-police kitesurf order for Afiartis was found for 2026. The Greek national rules apply: no riding before sunrise or after sunset, 200 m from swimmers, anchored boats, rocks, buoys and other obstacles, 200 m off the shore except through a marked corridor, a clear 100 m radius around the launch, 1 nautical mile from ports, marinas and fish farms, warning signs in Greek and English on any licensed area, and a licensed lifeguard with a motorised rescue craft once the wind passes Beaufort 6. The three Afiartis bays are shared with windsurf stations that have their own marked water, so check on the beach before rigging.
Marmari (Kos)Kos - Mastichari/Marmari20112026: no newer municipal decision or port-authority text for Marmari appears on the municipality's public pages, so the practical rule is unchanged — launch from the signed kite area east of the main watersports station and stay off the swimming beach.
PsalidiKos Town - Psalidi20262026: no beach-specific municipal decision or port-authority text for Psalidi could be found, and the Kos municipality publishes none on its public pages.
Tigaki West BeachKos20262026: no municipality kite-zone order for Tigaki or Alykes has been found, and the north-coast strip is treated as open to windsurfing and kitesurfing along its length.
Each block is the opening of the record's own rule, kept in its own words. Where two postings do not line up, both are kept and neither is picked for you.
