Kappalady Lagoon

Kappalady Lagoon, about 30 minutes from the main Kalpitiya schools, is a relaxed, shallow flat-water lagoon reported by local operators as great for freestyle sessions and considered by some to be the birthplace of Sri Lankan kitesurfing. It is treated as a summer-only add-on trip from the main Kalpitiya lagoon base rather than a year-round independent spot.

Monthly wind statistics

Station: Kalpitiya (Windfinder (observed station), ~0 km) — Windfinder's Kalpitiya page is a real at-spot station but the record is short (Nov 2017–Dec 2018) and no longer actively reporting; June has no observations at all (shown as null). Windfinder's current site reports wind-strength distribution as knot buckets (0–1 / 1–22 spelled out as 1–7, 7–22, 22–34, >34 kt) rather than a direct Beaufort-≥4 probability, so prob_ge_4bft_pct is left null; the raw bucket percentages are preserved in wind_bucket_pct_0_1_7_22_34plus_kts per month. Jul–Sep show the strongest, most consistent SSW wind (68–77% in the 7–22kt bucket, up to 25% above 22kt), consistent with the SW monsoon kite season. No water temperature reported (Kalpitiya is a lagoon/inland-facing station).
