When it fills in

No thermal clock. Bora is synoptic and runs day and night, and in reanalysis the strong hours actually cluster overnight and through the morning, easing off in mid-afternoon — the opposite of a sea-breeze beach. Sirocco builds ahead of a front and can hold after dark. Indicative.

Lido Kitebeach sits at Alberoni, the southern tip of the Venice Lido, and the club there runs kitesurf, kitefoil and wingfoil. The water is open Adriatic rather than lagoon, with chop and small waves.
Bora from the NE and Sirocco from the SE are the two setups, and nobody has published wind statistics for this beach, so the best months are anyone's guess. The beach is wide and undeveloped, backed by protected dunes: stay on the marked paths, keep off the dunes and well away from fenced nesting areas.
That constraint is the real character of Alberoni, more than the wind is. Under the 2026 rules, kitesurf inside the 500 m bathing zone is prohibited unless a compliant launch corridor or a separated sport area is in place, which in summer means asking the club before you unroll anything.
Winter water drops to around 8-10 C, so a proper winter suit. Getting there is a boat and a bus: ACTV water transport to Lido Santa Maria Elisabetta then bus Line A to Alberoni, about 1 h 21 min from Venice airport, or ACTV Line 11 via Pellestrina from Chioggia.

fills in: No thermal clock. Bora is synoptic and runs day and night, and in reanalysis the strong hours actually cluster overnight and through the morning, easing off in mid-afternoon — the opposite of a sea-breeze beach. Sirocco builds ahead of a front and can hold after dark. Indicative.

Typical strength

Bora and Sirocco days run about 15-25 kn, with the harder Bora episodes above that. An offshore reanalysis point twelve kilometres out has hours at or above 12 kn on about 23% of the year, 13% at or above 15 kn and 8% at or above 18 kn; at the beach itself, in the lee of the island for northerly components, expect less. Indicative, no local measurement.

An exposed Adriatic beach that works on Bora and Sirocco. No local wind statistics have been published for Lido di Venezia / Parcospino.
Bora is what makes this beach work. In reanalysis it supplies most of the strong hours, far more than Sirocco does, and the frequency sits in October to May with November the best month. June and July are the flat pair.
The summer window is also the one hemmed in by the bathing season and the protected-area rules. Indicative monthly pattern, no local measurement.

The quiver, in words

For a 75-85 kg rider: 10-12 m on an ordinary Bora, 8-9 m when it is properly on, 14-15 m or the foil for the light days that make up most of June and July. Indicative sizing derived from the wind range, not from local rider reports.

Direction to shore

The Alberoni shore runs almost north-south, axis about 14 degrees, with the open Adriatic off to the ESE. Sirocco from the SE comes in cross-onshore, close to square.Bora from the NE is side-onshore from the left: it blows along the beach with an onshore component rather than at it, which is what makes it rideable and also what sends a downwind drift south. Shore angle derived from the mapped shoreline.

modelled

A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it. Good for comparing places, weaker for one beach.

Modelled from weather reanalysis on a 10–25 km grid (2022-2024), not a ground station: reliable for trade and synoptic winds, understates thermal sea breezes and valley winds. The typical daily max and the direction are columns of the table above, month by month. Highlighted months are the riding season from the spot record.

Tides

A real tide by Mediterranean standards. Modelled sea level over three months gave a daily range of 0.33-1.16 m, median about 0.79 m, so a spring tide moves roughly a metre and changes both the width of the dry beach and the depth of the shallows. Modelled, no local gauge reading.

Wetsuit

Summer water is warm; winter water around 8-10 C requires a full winter wetsuit.

9–27°C water
Open Adriatic beach on the southern Venice Lido, undeveloped and with room to spread out. Chop and small waves are the norm; no measured wave statistics have been published.

Alberoni is marked as intermediate. It also gets called beginner-friendly, but the local rules and the rescue arrangements are unconfirmed, so beginners should go through the school or the club.

Rescue

No confirmed lifeguard cover and no club safety boat for independent riders at Alberoni; nothing kite-specific was found for 2026. For an emergency on the water the Coast Guard emergency line is 1530. The club's public site publishes no rescue, course or price detail and lists a placeholder telephone number, so settle cover by email before you count on it.

Hazards riders report 12

  • seasonal beach users
  • local rules unconfirmed
  • seasonal bathers and 500 m bathing zone unless a lawful launch corridor is in place
  • protected dune and Natura 2000 area rules at Alberoni
  • do not enter fenced nesting or dune-protection areas
  • no rescue arrangement on record
  • No published wind statistics for Lido di Venezia / Parcospino, so the season cannot be planned on numbers.
  • Bocca di Malamocco, the deep-water shipping entrance to the port of Venice, lies about 2.5 km down the beach to the SSE — the downwind end in a NE Bora
  • seasonal bathers and the 500 m bathing zone unless a lawful launch corridor is in place
  • no rescue arrangement on record, and the club's published contact details are a placeholder
  • winter water around 9-10 C in February with no cover on the beach
  • Bora gusts arriving at any hour, including overnight and at first light
Rules & access
2026 Comune di Venezia protected-area guidance for Alberoni cites the 2026 Coast Guard bathing-safety ordinance: within the 500 m bathing zone, kitesurf, windsurf, parasailing and other sail boards are prohibited unless concessionaires, authorized activity holders, or the municipality for free beaches have separated bathing and sport areas with launch corridors meeting the ordinance requirements.
The same 2026 municipal guidance lists protected-area prohibitions at Alberoni, including no transit or stopping on dunes outside marked paths and no interference with protected nesting areas.

Access rules drift faster than anything else we hold — check locally, and propose an edit if this has changed.

Rider tips

  • Confirm the KBL corridor or authorized area is live before you rig in summer; the 2026 ordinance makes the corridor the condition for riding.
  • Walk to the water on the marked paths only, and keep kites, bags and feet off the dunes and the nesting fences.
  • Allow the full journey: Alberoni is the far southern end of the Lido, not a stop near Venice.
  • Treat Bora as NE and Sirocco as SE, then ask locally about shore angle, gusts and rescue before your first session.
  • Bring a winter suit outside summer; the water goes down to 8.4 C.
  • Bring a winter suit outside summer; the water goes down to 8-10 C in February.
  • In a Bora your downwind end is the Malamocco shipping entrance, about 2.5 km south. Set your limit upwind of it before you go out.
  • Do not plan around an afternoon sea breeze. The strong hours here fall overnight and in the morning, so an early start beats a late one.
  • Email the club rather than phoning: the number on its site is a placeholder.
