When it fills in

There is no daily pattern to plan around. Bora and Sirocco are gradient winds: they arrive with the weather system, can hold through the night and for a couple of days, and can also switch off inside an hour. Watch the synoptic chart, not the clock.

Punta Sabbioni is the launch at the mouth of the Venice lagoon, a small sandy beach by the Faro Pagoda at the far western end of Cavallino-Treporti. It runs on Bora out of the NE, which arrives side-shore and is the best direction the spot has; Sirocco reaches it too.
Bora can hit 30-40 knots while the usual wind here is under 10, which tells you the shape of the place: you do not plan a week around it.
The wind is unstable and has no regular pattern from one year to the next, and although June, July and August are listed as the best months, spring and autumn bring the strong days more often. Water goes from flat to chop to medium waves as the Bora builds.
The launch is smaller than it looks and the street runs right behind it, so an onshore day is a real problem, not an inconvenience. Ships come and go through the lagoon channel, current runs on a going high tide, and no kite corridor is named here for 2026. Come for a Bora, or do not come.

fills in: There is no daily pattern to plan around. Bora and Sirocco are gradient winds: they arrive with the weather system, can hold through the night and for a couple of days, and can also switch off inside an hour. Watch the synoptic chart, not the clock.

Typical strength

usual wind is listed as light below 10 knots, while Bora can reach 30-40 knots.

Unstable and difficult to predict, with no regular year-to-year pattern.
June-August is the nominal best window, though spring and autumn bring the stronger winds more often. A good Bora can still land in mid-August.

The quiver, in words

No local size guidance is published; what follows is indicative, worked from the recorded wind bands rather than from measurement. The ordinary sub-10 kt day will not carry a 75-85 kg rider on anything sane.A moderate Bora is 9-10m, and a full 30-40 kt Bora puts the same rider on 5-7m, in current, at the mouth of a shipping channel.

Direction to shore

NE is the best direction and it comes in side-shore. Sirocco reaches the beach too, reportedly.

The model is wrong here

The model reads 18% of days at its best month, which does not sit with the season and the wind strength this record states. The figures are kept and drawn as hatching so no wind colour can be read off them, and the ringed months are the ones riders name.

riders' months

Riders and schools name these months. The model reads lower here, and both are shown rather than averaged.

Modelled from the operational forecast archive at 1.5–7 km (2023-2024), daylight hours only, not a ground station: it resolves thermal, lake and valley winds far better than coarse reanalysis but still tends to understate a strong local thermal. A windy day has at least three consecutive daylight hours at 12 knots or more. The typical daily max and the direction are columns of the table above, month by month. Highlighted months are the riding season from the spot record.

Standing depth

The bottom shelves gently. Whether there is a defined standing-depth zone is unconfirmed.

Tides

Current runs on a going high tide. No tide range has been published for this launch.

Temperature

26.3°C summer · 8.3°C winter

Wetsuit

shorts are suggested in summer, shorty in spring/fall, and a full winter suit; in Bora even summer may require a shorty or thermal top.

Currents

Current is the standing hazard here, and it runs hardest on a going high tide.

Adriatic water at the mouth of the Venice lagoon. Flat when it is light, chop and up to medium waves once the wind fills in.

Your level

Intermediate and up. The beach is small, the street is right behind it, and between onshore risk, ship traffic, current and the bridge there is nothing here for a first-week rider.

Rescue

VHF channel 16

No rescue cover at the launch. This is a free beach, and under the 2026 district rules lifeguard duty falls on the beach establishments and on the municipality only for the free stretches it chooses to staff; where it does, cover runs 09:30-19:00 from the first Saturday of June to the first Sunday of September and 10:00-18:00 either side of that within the season.
Nothing is on hand for a kiter carried into the channel. Emergencies at sea: 1530 free around the clock, 112, the Jesolo Coast Guard operations room on 041 968962, or VHF channel 16.

Launch

Small sandy beach near the Punta Sabbioni lighthouse at the western end of Cavallino-Treporti, reached by car and a short walk.

Rules & access
The 2026 bathing-safety ordinance for the Jesolo maritime district, which covers Cavallino-Treporti and Punta Sabbioni, came into force on 1 May 2026 and abrogated the previous one. It defines the bathing season as the third week of May to the third week of September, with the Region or the municipality free to move either end by a week.
Within 500 m of the coast, kitesurf transit is banned unless a beach concession, an authorization holder, or the municipality for a free beach has laid a launch corridor separating the riding area from the bathing water; no corridor is named at Punta Sabbioni, matching the long-standing no-corridor status, and the detailed kite corridor rules are themselves deferred to the district's pleasure-craft ordinance.
Bathing is permanently banned in ports, along ship access routes and inside port canals, within 100 m of harbour structures, within 10 m of breakwaters and rock defences, and inside marked launch corridors. Other craft must keep 100 m clear of anyone kitesurfing.
The special local arrangement covering the boat-anchoring area off Punta Sabbioni under the 2025 ordinance was judged to need fresh analysis and was not renewed on its previous terms, which points at continued or tighter restriction rather than a new allowance.

Access rules drift faster than anything else we hold — check locally, and propose an edit if this has changed.

Rider tips

  • Check the tide alongside the forecast: current runs on a going high tide.
  • Do not launch in onshore wind. The beach is small and the street is right behind it.
  • Stay clear of the shipping channel in and out of the Venice lagoon.
  • Pack a shorty or a thermal top even in August, because a Bora takes the warmth out of a summer session.
  • Drive in through Jesolo and park near the lighthouse; the launch is a short walk from the car.
  • Nobody is watching this beach. Ride with someone, and keep 1530 and channel 16 to hand.

Staying

Cavallino-Treporti and Punta Sabbioni are tourist areas with campsites and beach accommodation; Venice is reachable by boat from Punta Sabbioni.

No-wind days

The boat to Venice leaves from Punta Sabbioni itself, which makes an easy no-wind day. Otherwise the Cavallino-Treporti beaches, cycling the lagoon, and the lighthouse.
