On the clock

12:00

No general onset is documented. On one Grecale day riders met around 12:00 in 20-25 knots.

The marks are the clock times the record names, laid on a 24-hour day. The bar between the first and the last covers those hours; it is not a promise of wind.

San Giuliano is the sand in front of Trapani, a few minutes from the historic centre, and it is a beach you ride when it blows rather than a trip you book. Grecale and Levante are what light it up: one 2019 Grecale day sat at about 20 knots at noon and built to 25, ridden on a 7 m.
The water is choppy with small to medium waves. The problem is access.
There is no kite entry or exit chute, and through the summer tourist season the beach belongs to bathers, which makes it an off-season option: the window is written as October to end March in one line and October to end May in the next, and nobody has resolved which.
Long-run numbers are thin, an average monthly wind around 5-9 knots and 131 days a year over the 12 knot mark. No 2026 corridor, ordinance or rescue arrangement specific to San Giuliano is on record. If you need a lesson or a session you can count on, Lo Stagnone up the coast is the honest answer.

Typical strength

On a Grecale day, 28 June 2019, about 20 knots at noon rising to about 25 knots. No normal range has been published.

Grecale and Levante both deliver, Grecale best. What limits the beach is summer bathers and the absence of a kite entry and exit chute.
Usable outside the tourist and bathing season, because in summer the beach is full of swimmers and there is no kite chute. The written window contradicts itself: October to end March in one line, October to end May in the next.

modelled

A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it. Good for comparing places, weaker for one beach.

Modelled from the operational forecast archive at 1.5–7 km (2023-2024), daylight hours only, not a ground station: it resolves thermal, lake and valley winds far better than coarse reanalysis but still tends to understate a strong local thermal. A windy day has at least three consecutive daylight hours at 12 knots or more. The typical daily max and the direction are columns of the table above, month by month. Highlighted months are the riding season from the spot record.

Standing depth

Fine sand bottom that shelves gently. This is the beach Trapani families take small children to precisely because you can walk out a long way in shallow water, and the same profile is what gives you a body-drag-friendly launch area off-season.No measured distance or depth has been published, and the Mediterranean tide range is too small for a tide window to matter.

Tides

Small Mediterranean tide range, and no tide restriction has been recorded for the beach.

Temperature

26.2°C summer · 14.1°C winter

Wetsuit

Summer usually no wetsuit or shorty depending on wind chill; winter needs a full suit. Trapani water temperature averages around 26.2 C in August (warmest) and around 14.1 C in February (coldest).

Sandy urban beach on the Trapani seafront, with choppy, small and medium wave states.

Your level

Nothing confirms San Giuliano as a beginner beach. It is an urban shoreline with seasonal access limits and no kite chute, so ride it independently only from intermediate up.

Rescue

No kite rescue, no club and no lifeguard cover on record. The beach is served by lidi with showers, bars and restaurants, but those are summer businesses and the months this place is actually rideable are the empty ones. Nothing is arranged for an independent rider; bring someone who can drive round to pick you up.

Launch

Long sandy public beach directly on the Trapani waterfront, a few minutes from the historic center.

Rules & access
2026: no Trapani municipal ordinance and no Capitaneria di Porto launch corridor specific to Spiaggia di San Giuliano was located, and there is no marked kite entry or exit chute on the beach. In its absence the standard clause of the 2026 Italian bathing-safety ordinances applies: launching, landing and transit must go through an authorised corridor where one is installed, and where none is, only with no bathers present and on a course as close to perpendicular to the shore as possible. 2019/2022 local guidance reaches the same practical answer - with bathers filling the beach through the summer and no chute, San Giuliano is an off-season spot, above all in Grecale - and contradicts itself on the window, giving October to end March in the running text and October to end May in the summary list.

Access rules drift faster than anything else we hold — check locally, and propose an edit if this has changed.

Rider tips

  • Come on a Grecale or Levante forecast; nothing else here is worth the drive.
  • Treat it as an off-season beach and check the signage and where the bathers are before you rig.
  • Expect a plain urban beach: no kite chute, no kite centre, no rescue.
  • For lessons or early progression go to Lo Stagnone instead, unless a school is supervising you here.
  • Check the Trapani-area live wind before driving, because this is synoptic and occasional rather than a lagoon thermal you can count on.
