When it fills in

Thermal sea breeze rather than gradient wind. Mornings are usually dead, the breeze builds through the afternoon and drops toward evening. Afternoon carries about twice the share of usable wind days that the rest of the day does, so it is the only window worth planning around.

Marausa is the second-choice spot on the Trapani side of the Lo Stagnone area, a thin beach between Marsala and Trapani with clear, shallow water over sand. It earns its place when the wind is north or northeast and that angle suits it better than the main Lo Stagnone launch.
Do not plan a trip around it: the historical average is 7.6 kt with 12.8% reliability, and the wind is gusty and variable when it does arrive, with the afternoon the better window. Light-wind guidance puts you on 10-14 m, though no rider-weight range has been published. The other constraint is the calendar.
Marausa is a bathing beach with lidos and restaurants on the sand, so kiting belongs to the off-season, October to May, or October to late April; the two versions do not agree. Watch the southern section for rocky outcrops and the deeper channels further out for boats.
Anyone learning should be at Lo Stagnone instead, the west Sicily base that is set up for it.

fills in: Thermal sea breeze rather than gradient wind. Mornings are usually dead, the breeze builds through the afternoon and drops toward evening. Afternoon carries about twice the share of usable wind days that the rest of the day does, so it is the only window worth planning around.

Typical strength

Light and gusty, usually 8-15 kt. The usable 12-35 kt band turns up on roughly 13% of days across the year and 17-24% of days from January to April. Long-run statistical figures, not on-the-water measurement.

Unreliable, variable and gusty next to Lo Stagnone.
Rideable outside the bathing season. The Comune's 2026 bathing season runs 1 May to 31 October, which puts the practical kite window at November through April; October is a grey zone that different local descriptions include or exclude. January to April is the windiest part of that window.
It stays a secondary option, worth the drive only when the wind sits north or northeast and that angle suits Marausa better than the main Lo Stagnone launch.

Also on record

Historical average 7.6 kt with 12.8% reliability over the period measured; both figures are indicative.

The quiver, in words

Big-kite territory for a 75-85 kg rider: a 12 m for the better afternoons around 14-15 kt, and a 15 m or a foil for the 8-12 kt that is more common. A 9 m almost never comes out. Indicative, derived from the local wind range rather than from measured sessions.

Direction to shore

Cross to onshore in NE.

Dominant direction

NE is the best wind. SE comes out as the historical dominant direction, but NE side-shore is what works at this beach.

modelled

A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it. Good for comparing places, weaker for one beach.

Modelled from weather reanalysis on a 10–25 km grid (2022-2024), not a ground station: reliable for trade and synoptic winds, understates thermal sea breezes and valley winds. The typical daily max and the direction are columns of the table above, month by month. Highlighted months are the riding season from the spot record.

The water

Type

open beach / sheltered shallow coastal water; flat to chop with minimal waves in normal kiteable wind

Standing depth

The bottom is not very deep; nearshore sections are very shallow and lagoon-like, with slightly deeper channels further out. No exact safe standing-depth teaching zone is on record.

Tides

micro-tidal Mediterranean; no kite-specific tide issue on record.

Temperature

26°C summer · 15°C winter

Wetsuit

Summer generally boardshorts/lycra or shorty; winter and early spring need a full suit, commonly around 4/3 mm.

15–26°C water
The beach is narrow/not especially large, with clear water and lidos/restaurants on the beach. Deeper-water channels and rocky outcrops are present in the southern section.

Your level

Shallow, mostly flat water suits beginners and intermediates outside the bathing season, but the thin beach, variable wind, rocks and boat channels make it a weaker school base than Lo Stagnone.

Rescue

No kite rescue and no kite-specific cover at Marausa. Any lifeguard provision on the free beach belongs to the summer bathing season, which is exactly the half of the year you are not riding. For anything at sea the Coast Guard sea-emergency number is 1530, answered around the clock; 112 also works.
The people who would realistically come and find you are the Lo Stagnone schools ten to twenty minutes away, so tell one of them before you go out alone.

Launch

Narrow beach launch at Lido Marausa outside the bathing season. Lidos and restaurants sit on the sand, so in summer the swimmers decide where you can and cannot go in.

Rules & access
2026: Marausa is an ordinary bathing beach in the Comune di Misiliscemi and the 2026 bathing season runs 1 May to 31 October, which puts the legal kiting window at roughly 1 November to 30 April. No kite corridor, launch-and-landing zone or kite-specific ordinance exists for Marausa itself. Two municipal acts frame the 2026 season: a procurement for safety works on the free beach at Marausa, and Ordinanza Sindacale n. 20 of 20 April 2026, which bans bathing for the whole 2026 season along a 440 m stretch at Salinagrande (localita Isolotto, from 37.9599/12.4957 to 37.9635/12.4976) because of discharges from channels, streams and a treatment plant. That second order is about water quality on the next stretch up the coast, not about Marausa and not about kiting, but it tells you what the drainage does to this shoreline. The Capitaneria di Porto Trapani seasonal safety ordinance has not been read and may add its own zones.

Access rules drift faster than anything else we hold — check locally, and propose an edit if this has changed.

Rider tips

  • Ride Marausa on NE days and keep Lo Stagnone as the base for learning and progression.
  • Stay off the beach in the bathing season unless a school or the Comune confirms access is legal.
  • Walk the southern section before riding close in; the rocks are there.
  • Keep out of the deeper channels where boats run, and use short fins for the shallow patches.
  • Phone a Lo Stagnone school for the day's call, because nobody is stationed at Marausa to make it for you.
  • The 2026 bathing season runs 1 May to 31 October, so plan Marausa for November through April.
  • Come in the afternoon. Mornings here are usually flat calm.
  • Save 1530, the Coast Guard sea-emergency number, before you rig.

FAQ

When can you kite at Marausa?

Marausa is rideable roughly October to May, or October to late April, because the beach is used for summer bathing the rest of the year.

What is the wind like at Marausa?

Northeast is repeatedly named the best direction, but one historical dataset reports a low average of 7.6 knots and only about 12.8% wind reliability, with afternoons the best window.

Is Marausa suitable for beginners?

The shallow, mostly flat water can suit beginners and intermediates outside the bathing season, though the narrow beach, rocks and variable wind make it less robust than nearby Lo Stagnone.

What are the hazards at Marausa?

Rocky outcrops sit in the southern section, boats use the deeper channels, and some nearshore areas are very shallow.
