Coequaddus is a wave bay on the south-east side of Sant'Antioco, open sea, cliffs around it, and no reason for a beginner to be there. It works on southerly, south-easterly and easterly systems, Ostro, Scirocco and Levante, with chop and small to medium waves that stay less radical than Spiaggia Grande.
The bottom where you launch is sandy, but the hill at the southern end of the bay throws turbulence, so riders rig and ride from the northern part of the beach. Kiting runs September to May, because the beach is very crowded in summer and kiting is allowed only outside the summer months.
Sardinia's 2026 regional beach-season ordinance frames the bathing season from the third week of May to the third week of September and leaves the safety detail to the maritime authority and the municipalities. There is no reserved kitesurf area and no rescue on site. A 75 kg rider is reportedly on 8-16 m kites here.
Summer water is 25.6 C and winter 14.2 C, so a 4/3 covers the cold half of the year.

Character

synoptic

Forecast-dependent open-sea wave wind. Turbulence off the southern hill pushes the usable launch and riding area to the north part of the beach.
An off-season Sant'Antioco wave option. Kiting runs September to May, because summer is crowded and kiting is allowed only outside the summer months.
Wind numbers for this coast come from forecast models rather than measurement: the nearest station record sits on the sheltered lagoon side at Sa Barra, averaged 8 kt with 11 kt gusts and a north-westerly bias while it ran from April 2015 to June 2021, and has since stopped reporting.

modelled

A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it. Good for comparing places, weaker for one beach.

Modelled from weather reanalysis on a 10–25 km grid (2022-2024), not a ground station: reliable for trade and synoptic winds, understates thermal sea breezes and valley winds. The typical daily max and the direction are columns of the table above, month by month. Highlighted months are the riding season from the spot record.

Rescue

Nothing on site. No lifeguard, no rescue boat and no kite school on the bay; free parking and a kiosk that opens only for the summer season are the facilities. A sea emergency goes to the coastguard on 1530, or 112 for a general emergency.

Launch

Large sandy bay below cliffs and Mediterranean vegetation. The southern hill creates annoying turbulence, so riders should launch from the more northern part of the beach.

Space

The beach is large, but the useful kite space is cut down by turbulence, seasonal bathers and the lack of a reserved kite area.

Rules & access
2026: kitesurfing at Coaquaddus is allowed only outside the summer months and must follow local rules. There is no reserved kitesurf area, and riding happens from September to May because the beach is very crowded in summer. Sardinia's 2026 regional beach-season ordinance fixes the bathing-season framework from the third week of May to the third week of September and defers safety details to the maritime authority and the municipalities.

Access rules drift faster than anything else we hold — check locally, and propose an edit if this has changed.

Rider tips

  • Rig and launch on the northern part of the beach; the southern hill makes the air messy.
  • Do not bring a first lesson or a first-week rider here.
  • Read the local signage before rigging, above all at the edges of the bathing season.
  • Bring a wave-capable setup and expect onshore or side-onshore work rather than flat-water cruising.
  • Fall back on Punta Trettu, Porto Botte or Is Solinas when Coequaddus is too rough.
  • Pack a 4/3 from autumn through spring; winter water is 14.2 C.
