La Salina is a small sandy bay framed by cliffs, just north of Spiaggia Grande on the Calasetta side of Sant'Antioco. The water is choppy with small waves, and the bay is less exposed than Spiaggia Grande or Maresciallo, which makes it the more manageable Calasetta option on a day when those two are too much.
It is still an advanced spot. Wind comes from N, NW, W and SW, and the names are Tramontana, Maestrale, Ponente and Libeccio; N arrives side-on into the bay and NW is easier here than next door.
The season is winter and the shoulder months, when the disturbances come through, and summer is closed under local rules (2026) as well as busy with bathers. The launch area is small and the cliffs are close.
Nobody has published standing depth, currents, rescue cover, a wind range or a kite size for this bay, so what you get here is a location and a season, not a briefing.

modelled

A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it. Good for comparing places, weaker for one beach.

Modelled from the operational forecast archive at 1.5–7 km (2023-2024), daylight hours only, not a ground station: it resolves thermal, lake and valley winds far better than coarse reanalysis but still tends to understate a strong local thermal. A windy day has at least three consecutive daylight hours at 12 knots or more. The typical daily max and the direction are columns of the table above, month by month. Highlighted months are the riding season from the spot record.

Rider tips

  • Treat La Salina as a winter forecast spot, not a lesson beach.
  • Check the Calasetta forecast before you drive over from Cagliari or Punta Trettu; the bay only works on a system.
  • Stay off the beach in summer unless a current local rule and a marked corridor allow it.
  • If Spiaggia Grande or Maresciallo look too exposed, drop north to La Salina.
  • Bring a full wetsuit in winter; the water sits around 14 C.
