The beach is long and wide and the launch is big, but the 2026 ordinance narrows the legal kitesurf areas and makes corridors and signage a condition of using them.

- Read the current Comune di Fiumicino bathing ordinance, then check the corridor and signage are physically installed before rigging in summer.
- Ask Roma Kite Academy, FSKI or the beach corridor manager which of Zones E, F and G is open that day.
- Stay off the central Focene breakwaters and leave extra downwind room when it is strong or cross-shore.
- In summer ride the afternoon thermal or Ponente; out of season wait for a clean synoptic direction and a settled sea.
- Carry proof of third-party liability insurance: the 2026 ordinance requires it of riders, schools and associations.
- Ignore older spot pages that say there are no rules here.

Rome Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci Airport (FCO), 6-12 km from Focene depending on the route; 10 km and a 10-minute taxi is the usual figure.
Route
Easiest by car from Rome on the Grande Raccordo Anulare toward Fiumicino Airport, then the Fiumicino-Focene/Fregene signs. A direct Cotral bus runs FCO to Focene in about 12 minutes for 1-2 euro; other public-transport routings come out around 30-36 minutes depending on direction and route.

Are there rules or restricted zones at Focene?
For 2026, a Comune di Fiumicino ordinance bans kitesurfing on the whole coast during bathing season except in named zones E, F and G, each with a defined width, and requires riders to carry liability insurance.
How do you get to Focene?
Rome Fiumicino Airport is about 10 km away, roughly a 10-12 minute taxi ride, making Focene one of the easiest Rome-area sea spots to reach.
Is Focene suitable for beginners?
Yes, local schools list beginner through expert riders, though beginners should launch with supervision given the corridor rules, breakwaters and shifting sea state.
