fills in: Thermal wind can drop suddenly in the evening. Onset time is unconfirmed.
Typical strength
25-30 knots and up in Maestrale is what the spot is for, and it works almost only in Maestrale and Ponente. On those days the wave runs 1-3 m over the rock peaks. No moderate-wind range is confirmed.

The quiver, in words
No local size guidance is published. The 25-30 knot Maestrale days the spot exists for put a 75-85 kg rider on roughly 7-9 m; a lighter 18-22 knot afternoon takes 9-11 m. Indicative, derived from the published wind figures rather than from measured local use.
Direction to shore
NW/Maestrale is cross-shore; N is cross-off or side-off and more gusty; W and SW are onshore/side.

The model is wrong here
The model reads 47% of days at its best month, which does not sit with the season and the wind strength this record states. The figures are kept and drawn as hatching so no wind colour can be read off them, and the ringed months are the ones riders name.

riders' months
Riders and schools name these months. The model reads lower here, and both are shown rather than averaged.
Modelled from the operational forecast archive at 1.5–7 km (2023-2024), daylight hours only, not a ground station: it resolves thermal, lake and valley winds far better than coarse reanalysis but still tends to understate a strong local thermal. A windy day has at least three consecutive daylight hours at 12 knots or more. The typical daily max and the direction are columns of the table above, month by month. Highlighted months are the riding season from the spot record.

Standing depth
No measured depth. Three separate rock tables lie about 300 m off the shore and make the three peaks, so the shallow water here is rock rather than a sandbank you would choose to stand on. Descriptions of the entry conflict: shallow sand, shallow enough to touch down a foil, against a low rock shelf with urchins.Unconfirmed.
Tides
Listed as tide independent.
Temperature
25.3°C summer · 14.6°C winter
Wetsuit
Summer is generally shorts or shorty; spring and autumn shorty/normal wetsuit; winter normal to thick wetsuit. Data for nearby San Giovanni di Sinis gives peak water 24-28 C in mid August and 13-14 C around early March.
Currents
Strong current can make getting back to shore difficult in big conditions.

Launch
Launch from the Funtana Meiga shore west of San Giovanni di Sinis, at the north end of the little beach. From Oristano head north for Torre Grande, follow the signs for San Giovanni di Sinis, and turn right for Funtana Meiga about 300 m before the village. What you find at the water is disputed: a low line of rock shelf in one account, sand in another. Three rocky tables sit roughly 300 m out and form the peaks. There are no services at the spot.
Space
Conflicting descriptions: a big sandy beach, effectively no beach with a low rocky shoreline, and a little beach. Unconfirmed.

Rider tips
- Check the Sinis marine-protected-area zone rules and the posted beach signs before you rig.
- Take NW/Maestrale as the reference direction and expect a gustier, more offshore day when it swings north.
- Wear booties: the access and the shallows have rock and urchins.
- Bring your own water and food, because there are no services at the spot.
- Respect the current when the wave size is up; getting back in is the hard part on a big day.
- The peaks sit about 300 m out over rock. Know where they are before you ride downwind of them.
- If the zoning matters for your plan, ring the marine-area office on +39 0783 391097 rather than guessing from the map.

FAQ
When is the best time to kite at Funtana Meiga?
The season runs March to October, with the spot working best when Maestrale blows above 25-30 knots.
Is Funtana Meiga suitable for beginners?
No, this record treats it as intermediate to advanced because of reef, rocks, sea urchins and current, despite some sources listing it for any level.
What is the wind like at Funtana Meiga?
Maestrale from the northwest is the clean cross-shore direction, while north wind is more gusty and cross-off to side-off.
What hazards should riders know about?
Hazards include reef, rocks on the seabed and sea urchins, with a strong current reported that can make returning to shore difficult in big conditions.
