Waquoit Bay
Waquoit Bay is a protected estuary on Cape Cod's south shore, straddling the towns of Falmouth and Mashpee, and part of the Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve. It's used by local New England kiters as a sheltered, shallow-water alternative to the open Atlantic, going glassy flat around low tide.

| season notes | Classic New England season - spring/summer thermal SW sea breezes build through the afternoon; fall brings stronger frontal wind but a fast-shortening season into cold water. |

|---|---|
| wetsuit | New England water is cold most of the year - a wetsuit (spring suit in high summer, thicker neoprene in shoulder season) is standard. |

Monthly wind statistics
Station: Waquoit Bay Reserve (Windfinder, ~0.5 km) — Station is essentially at the spot itself (NOAA NERR reserve tide/weather station on Waquoit Bay). Dominant direction shifts from prevailing WNW winter winds to SW/SSW summer sea-breeze/thermal pattern, consistent with Cape Cod's classic summer southwesterly thermal that makes this spot popular May-Sep. Windfinder's current site design no longer publishes the monthly wind-probability(>=4Bft)/avg-knots table as text -- it is only rendered as an unlabeled bar chart (confirmed on Tarifa, Talat Yai and other well-known spots too, so this is a site-wide change, not a data gap for this station). Recorded here instead: annual avg wind speed/direction, monthly dominant wind direction, and monthly avg daytime air temperature, all pulled from the station's windstatistics page via a text-rendering proxy after windfinder.com rate-limited direct fetches for a time.
