Zingst Strandaufgang 6 is the Sportstrand, the one beach in Zingst where kiting and windsurfing are allowed, and it is on the open Ostsee side, not the sheltered Bodden. Expect Baltic chop and waves between closely spaced groynes rather than flat water.
WNW and east are the directions, both sideshore on this north-facing beach, with moderate waves and a clean line out between the groynes. As the wind goes northerly the exit gets harder, a strong northeast builds waves up to about 2 m, and south is offshore.
Rigging is at the surf school on the sand or on the big grass area by the dyke, about 100 m from the water, and Kurabgabe applies. Lifeguards are on the staffed sections May through September only; the Wasserrettung number is 038232-15788, 112 for emergencies, and nobody runs a kite rescue boat.
Water is about 18.6 C in August and 2.4 C in February, so a full suit outside high summer. No month-by-month season or wind average has been published for this launch, and with the groynes and summer beach traffic it is an intermediate-and-up spot unless you are in a lesson with the school.

Character

synoptic

Sideshore WNW and east give the cleanest setup between the groynes. The launch gets harder as the wind turns north, and a strong northeast builds bigger Baltic waves.
No month-by-month season is on record for Strandaufgang 6. Summer is busy on the beach, and kiting happens only when the wind fits.

Strength

No knot figure is published for this spot.

Direction to shore

On this north-facing Baltic beach, WNW and E are sideshore; northerly wind becomes more onshore and makes getting out harder, while southerly wind is offshore.

Dominant direction

WNW and E/O are the top directions; west and east both work well.

modelled

A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it. Good for comparing places, weaker for one beach.

Modelled from weather reanalysis on a 10–25 km grid (2022-2024), not a ground station: reliable for trade and synoptic winds, understates thermal sea breezes and valley winds. The typical daily max and the direction are columns of the table above, month by month. Highlighted months are the riding season from the spot record.

Standing depth

The beach shelves gradually, so there is a shallow strip you can stand in before the sandbars that build in front of the groynes. It is not a flat standing lagoon like the Bodden side, and no measured depth has been published for this beach.

Tides

No meaningful tidal range is on record for this Baltic Sea beach; no tide-specific riding guidance is published.

Hazards riders report 13

  • closely spaced groynes
  • bathers in summer
  • shore break and chop
  • Closely spaced groynes / Buhnen at the beach.
  • Getting out becomes harder as wind turns more northerly.
  • Strong northeast wind can build Baltic waves up to about 2 m.
  • Summer bathing and beach traffic at a resort sport beach.
  • Kiting is only allowed in designated areas, so riding outside the posted zone risks conflict or enforcement.
  • Kurabgabe / beach-fee requirements apply to the beach area.
  • Groynes run roughly 25 m out and disappear from view in bigger waves
  • Horses on the sand between accesses 5 and 7 from 1 October to the weekend before Easter
  • Stone patches among the sand
  • Narrow beach with little room once summer bathers are on it
Rules & access
2026: windsurfing and kitesurfing in Zingst are allowed only in designated areas, which in practice means beach access 6 at the surf and kite school. The beach is classed Sportstrand/Aktivstrand, Kurabgabe applies to this section and drones are banned. Staffed beach sections operate only in the official bathing season, May through September, with the main rescue tower at beach access 22 by the pier; assume no lifeguard cover outside that. Dogs are allowed on the lead between 06:00 and 07:30 all year and have the run of the beach from 1 October to 30 April. Horses are allowed between accesses 5 and 7 from 1 October until the weekend before Easter, so out of season expect riders on the sand. Parking is paid.

Access rules drift faster than anything else we hold — check locally, and propose an edit if this has changed.

Rider tips

  • Launch only inside the posted watersports zone at Strandaufgang 6; kiting anywhere else on the Zingst beach is not allowed.
  • Walk the beach first and pick your line out between the groynes; they are close together and the exit gets harder as the wind turns north.
  • Save a first visit for WNW or east sideshore; north and northeast mean a harder exit and up to 2 m of wave.
  • Budget for the Kurabgabe and paid parking in season; this is a resort sport beach, not a free car park.
  • In summer ask the school on the Sportstrand where the swim zone runs before you rig; rigging is at the school or on the grass by the dyke, about 100 m back.
  • Outside May to September there are no lifeguards on the beach; the Wasserrettung number is 038232-15788, 112 for emergencies.
  • The groynes stick out about 25 m and vanish in a bigger wave; count them from the beach before you go out.
  • Out of season, horses use the stretch between accesses 5 and 7 from October to the weekend before Easter.
  • The station on the sand runs April to October and shuts at 17:00, so late-season help on the beach is thin.
