Kitesurfing in Occitanie

17 spots · 6 destinations · 42 schools

Around Montpellier and Sète the good water is inland, on the Étang de Thau: Pont-Levis works a narrow sandbank reached on foot along the digue, flat on the shore side in a NW Tramontane, and La Pinède at Mèze is the fallback when that wind is blocked by Mont Saint-Clair.

Palavas-les-Flots is the open Mediterranean option nearer the city, best March-May and September-October like the rest of the group.

Occitanie holds 17 kitesurf spots in our atlas, grouped into 6 destinations. Riding here is mostly lagoons and flat water. Something is rideable here in every month of the year.

9 of them suits beginners. 42 schools operate in the region. The busiest areas are Gruissan, La Grande Motte and Leucate.

Grand TraversLa Grande Motte2026has a date window2026: the municipality's delimited kitesurf area is at Plage du Couchant, in use when weather allows, and its own description of Grand Travers is the wild, dune-protected western end of the beachfront with a dog section at access 60. The Zone 60 kite corridor at accesses 59-60 is established local practice rather than something a current municipal text confirms, so the signs posted on the day govern.
