Kitesurfing in Calabria

10 spots · 4 destinations · 12 schools

A thermal switch defines Calabria's Ionian coast: westerly wind crosses the peninsula and turns southwest by the shore, giving Steccato di Cutro and Botricello a reliable SW push through summer.

Punta Pellaro, at the southern tip facing the Strait of Messina, channels NW-NNW wind onto a wide rock-free beach that works for everyone from beginners to pros. Further north, Lazzaro's northwest Borea thermal runs 18-25 knots from May to September for intermediates and up.

Calabria holds 10 kitesurf spots in our atlas, grouped into 4 destinations. Something is rideable here in every month of the year. 7 of them suits beginners.

12 schools operate in the region. The busiest areas are Steccato di Cutro – Botricello, Lazzaro & Punta Pellaro and Gabella & Strongoli Marina.
