When it fills in

The east wind here is thermal, so it fills through the middle of the day and fades toward evening; that shape is indicative, since no hours have been published for this bay. A Maestrale can be in at any hour, day or night.

Golfo di Sogno is the flat-water corner at the northern end of the bay of Porto-Vecchio: a sandy launch beside a family campsite, with Benedettu, north of the inlet, the sector most people rig from. The water is shallow and you can stand a good way out, and there is no tide to think about.
The wind is the unsettled part: NW Maestrale comes in side-on and SE side-shore, other days it is the east wind blowing straight onshore, and although 20-27 knots is the range you are given, it is generally not a strong spot and it gusts inside the inlet.
June to August has the most rideable days, more than 20 a month, but that is also when boats, swimmers and campsite tourists fill the bay and the roadside parking runs out. It works for learners and for freestyle on the flat, and it is a good deal quieter than the big Corsican spots.
There are showers and toilets on site, and somewhere to eat. Ask a local which way the wind will set before you pump up, because on the wrong day you are launching onshore into boat traffic.

modelled

A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it. Good for comparing places, weaker for one beach.

Modelled from the operational forecast archive at 1.5–7 km (2023-2024), daylight hours only, not a ground station: it resolves thermal, lake and valley winds far better than coarse reanalysis but still tends to understate a strong local thermal. A windy day has at least three consecutive daylight hours at 12 knots or more. The typical daily max and the direction are columns of the table above, month by month. Highlighted months are the riding season from the spot record.

Rescue

VHF channel 16

No kite-specific rescue and no lifeguard cover reported at the launch. A sea emergency in France goes to 196 from any phone or to VHF channel 16; Corsica is covered by the CROSS station at Aspretto from 09:00 to 19:00, 08:00 to 22:00 in summer, and by CROSS La Garde outside those hours.
The nearest thing to organised cover is the Porto-Vecchio school, which runs supervised sessions from a boat in the bay and priced them at 50-60 EUR in 2024.

Launch

Sandy beach beside the Golfo di Sogno campsite; Benedettu, north of the inlet, is where most people launch because it is clearer.

Hazards riders report 8

  • gusts in the inlet
  • boats in the bay
  • swimming zones in high season
  • gusty wind in the inlet
  • busy boat traffic in summer
  • swimmers and beach users in June-August
  • limited roadside parking
  • tourist non-kiters in summer
Rules & access
2026: no municipal kitesurf order and no spot-specific rule has been found. Stay outside the marked swimming areas in the bathing season, watch the boat traffic from June to August, and ask a local before you go on the water.

Access rules drift faster than anything else we hold — check locally, and propose an edit if this has changed.

Rider tips

  • Rig at Benedettu, north of the inlet, when there is room; it is the clearest sector to launch and ride.
  • In summer, look for boats before every tack; the bay is busy with traffic from June to August.
  • Ask a local rider or school which wind is due, NW Maestrale, SE or the east onshore, because the setup changes with each.
  • Arrive early in summer: roadside parking is limited and the campsite fills.
  • In high season keep out of the marked swimming zones.
