Mikri Vigla
Mikri Vigla is Naxos's flagship kite and windsurf beach, on the island's west coast where the Meltemi accelerates through the Paros-Naxos strait to deliver more than 200 windy days a year. A rocky headland splits the bay into a calmer, shallower northern side and a choppier southern side, with a cluster of kite centers lining the beach road. It is one of the most consistently windy and well-organized kite bases in the Cyclades, catering to everyone from first-timers to advanced freestylers and foilers.

Monthly wind statistics
Station: Náxos, Greece (WeatherSpark (MERRA-2 reanalysis climate normals), ~12 km) — Naxos town station is ~12 km from Mikri Vigla on the island's SW coast, a reasonable island-wide proxy for the strong Cycladic Meltemi regime. Source is WeatherSpark (NASA/MERRA-2 reanalysis-derived climate normals), used as fallback because Windfinder.com returned HTTP 429 (rate-limited) for every station tried in this session, and meteoblue was blocked by a Cloudflare challenge. WeatherSpark does not publish probability of wind >=4 Bft, so prob_ge_4bft_pct is null for all months; avg_knots is converted from its mph averages (all-hours annual-cycle average, not limited to daylight/session hours). Dominant direction is coarse: WeatherSpark reports only 1-2 seasonal wind-direction buckets per year (not a true monthly breakdown), so the per-month value here is an approximation mapped from those date-range buckets, not a distinct monthly statistic.

Hazards
- rocky outcrops around the headland separating the two bays
- crowded launch/lesson area in peak season (Jul-Aug)
- gustier wind near the point
Rules
- informal kite lanes kept clear near the schools during lesson hours; no confirmed seasonal kiting ban found
Tips
- Book lessons ahead in July-August, the beach and schools get busy
- The kite center season generally runs April-November, with peak-season hours around 9am-7pm
- The bay north of the headland is the calmer, more beginner-friendly water
