On the clock

14:00

The reported September shape is cross-shore from the morning, a lull of a couple of hours around midday, a rebuild from about 14:00 with the wind swinging more onshore, and the strongest of the day near sunset. That is one rider's fortnight, not a season of measurements.

The marks are the clock times the record names, laid on a 24-hour day. The bar between the first and the last covers those hours; it is not a promise of wind.

Parajuru is a fishing village in Beberibe, about 130 km from Fortaleza, and the spot is a tidal lagoon behind the dunes in front of KBC Parajuru. The lagoon only exists around high tide: roughly 2 hours either side, a four-hour window, and at low tide it is dry sand.
It is also widest and deepest on the full-moon spring tide and smallest around the new moon, so the same week in two different months rides differently. Inside that window it is shallow and flat, the water beginners learn on and freestylers use.
Outside it, everyone walks over the dune belt to the sea about 300 m away, where small waves run along the sandbank, or drives to the Pirangi river mouth for about 500 m of very flat water upwind of the outlet.
The Ceara trade wind is E to SE, side-shore to side-on, 15-25 knots, best from August to November; the usable season starts in June or July and runs into January or February depending on who you ask. Water is 27-28 C, so boardshorts and a rash vest.
Watch for stones and mangrove branches in the lagoon, and ask at the center each morning which of the three is working, because wind and the river keep reshaping the lagoon.

A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it. Good for comparing places, weaker for one beach.

Modelled from weather reanalysis on a 10–25 km grid (2020-2024), not a ground station: reliable for trade and synoptic winds, understates thermal sea breezes and valley winds. The typical daily max and the direction are columns of the table above, month by month. Highlighted months are the riding season from the spot record.

Rescue

The centre's truck follows organized downwind trips and picks up riders who run out of legs, and beach staff handle launches and landings on the kite beach. No paid rescue for independent riders is documented.

Launch

The centre sits on the kite beach in front of the lagoon, separated from the sea by a dune belt, with the open ocean about 300 m away. Beach staff help with launching and landing; there is a compressor, storage boxes, changing rooms, showers and a freshwater rinse for kites. The Pirangi river mouth is the alternative spot, about 10 minutes by road, run as a buggy shuttle for a small fee, and the way back can be ridden as a downwinder.

Space

Several square kilometers of riding area between lagoon, river mouth and sea; launch space on the beach varies with tide.

Rules & access

Access rules drift faster than anything else we hold — check locally, and propose an edit if this has changed.

    Rider tips

    • Plan lagoon sessions for 2 hours either side of high tide; at low tide it is sand.
    • Book a full-moon week if you want the lagoon at its widest and deepest; around the new moon it shrinks.
    • Bring a 9 m and a 12 m; the 12 covers the pre- and post-season weeks.
    • Boardshorts and a rash vest, no wetsuit; the sun is the hazard here, so bring real cover.
    • Ask at KBC in the morning whether the lagoon, the Pirangi river mouth or the sea is the call; it changes with tide, moon and wind.
    • Rental on site is F-ONE if you are not flying with gear.
    • Renting needs a VDWS level 3 licence or the equivalent; without one it is lessons or your own gear.
    • The wind can drop for a couple of hours over lunch and come back stronger through the afternoon, so aim the tide window at the afternoon rather than midday.

    FAQ

When is the best time to kitesurf at Parajuru?

Wind reliability is highest from August to November, within a broader season running from around July through January or February.

Is the lagoon at Parajuru suitable for beginners?

Yes. The shallow lagoon in front of the local kite center is used for beginner lessons and freestyle, while the river mouth, ocean and downwind routes suit more advanced riders.

    What is the wind like?

A steady east to southeast trade wind blows in the 15-25 knot range through the windy season.

Is there a launch or timing constraint?

Yes. The lagoon is only usable for about four hours around high tide and dries out at low tide, so sessions need to follow the tide table.
