On the clock

13:00 · 20:00

The SE thermal normally comes in around 13:00 and holds until about 20:00, May to September. Regional Valencia-coast timing; the exact hour over the channel is unconfirmed.

The marks are the clock times the record names, laid on a 24-hour day. The bar between the first and the last covers those hours; it is not a promise of wind.

Barraquetes is a club spot, not a beach you turn up to. The riding area sits south of the irrigation-water outlet that drains Sueca's rice fields, at Playa del Rey in Mareny de Barraquetes, and the channel is open to members only in June, July and August.
That restriction is also the point: Club Barraquetes Vent is one of the few places on this coast where kitesurfing is allowed in summer, while other Valencia beaches are closed to it. El Rey itself is 900 m of soft sand inside the Albufera Natural Park, with a dune cordon, parking and lifeguard equipment.
The wind is the Sueca and Cullera coast picture, the SE Garbi thermal in summer plus E Levante and NE Gregal off the sea, roughly 12-25 kts regionally with no measured Barraquetes range. Independent beginners have no business here without the club or a school.
Membership, guest and rescue rules for 2026 are unconfirmed, so write or call before you drive down.

Barraquetes is a summer club/private spot with a channel enabled for members in June, July and August. The wider Mareny beach is known among windsurfers for strong SE thermal gusts in summer.

The quiver, in words

A 9-12 m covers most of the summer thermal for a 75-85 kg rider: the 12 m at the bottom of the 15-25 kt band, the 9 m at the top of it. Regional figures for the Valencia coast, with no measurement taken at the channel itself.

modelled

A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it. Good for comparing places, weaker for one beach.

Modelled from the operational forecast archive at 1.5–7 km (2023-2024), daylight hours only, not a ground station: it resolves thermal, lake and valley winds far better than coarse reanalysis but still tends to understate a strong local thermal. A windy day has at least three consecutive daylight hours at 12 knots or more. The typical daily max and the direction are columns of the table above, month by month. Highlighted months are the riding season from the spot record.

Rules & access
2025: Playa Barraquetes is a club and private spot through the summer, and the channel is enabled for members only in June, July and August. That restriction is also the reason to come: kitesurfing is otherwise prohibited on this coast in summer, and only three places are open, Club Barraquetes Vent at Playa del Rey in Mareny de Barraquetes, Club Boatkite at Playa de Motilla in Sueca, and the free public channel at El Perellonet. Navigable directions for Barraquetes are N, NE, E, SE and S. Sueca's beach season runs high from 15 June to 16 September, mid from 1 to 14 June and 17 to 30 September, and low the rest of the year, with signposted boat entry and exit channels on the serviced beaches (2020 beach information, still the published version in 2026). No municipal document defining the kite channel itself exists on either the Mareny de Barraquetes or the Sueca side.

Access rules drift faster than anything else we hold — check locally, and propose an edit if this has changed.

Rider tips

  • Contact Club Barraquetes Vent or a local rider before you arrive in June, July or August; the channel is members only.
  • Do not launch outside the marked or authorized channel in summer.
  • Keep clear of the irrigation-water outlet and watch for swimmers crossing the channel.
  • Respect the dune fencing and the planted cordon when you carry gear across.
  • Plan for the SE Garbi thermal in the afternoon; the regional range is roughly 12-25 kts.
